This was the picture I took of the Defender:
Would love to rescue it but it seems quite far gone for my amateur mechanics!
<Pedant Alert>

That's not a Defender, it's a Series 2 or 2A. Although they al look similar from the outside, the Series models are somewhat different animals, albeit much preferred by many of the cognoscenti.

I did wonder when you first posted the reg number.

Near Crewe this morning an XJS on stilts

I think it might be being restored judging by the lack of badges on the rear

I know France is France and this sort of thing isn't uncommon but this is a field behind a workshop about ten minutes from where I live. There are some interesting Opels I couldn't get close to and, unbelievably, an intact 1950s Limoges trolleybus. Goodness knows how or why it got there. First car I ever drove, a Simca Aronde...
Always thought a Traction-Avant would make a great hotrod with the '34 Ford look and it being low and wide. Adapt an L98 Corvette frame and running gear and you have a blisteringly fast hotrod that handles and stops with 35+mpg..
There's been a few rodded Traction-Avants, but their proportions are a bit 'off', they are too long, wide and flat to pull off the look, plus the sill line makes it look like they are bending in the middle.

This is probably the best effort I've seen.

They suit the chopped roof, but yes, they are too long (easily sorted though!). Kinda like a '34 five window.

I was just thinking "Sorry about the bag, didn't have time to shave."
Did someone say this was Paris? It's not the image they use for the tourist brochures...

Saw this in the flesh at the NEC last weekend. Chrome looked bloody good on it in patches. Looked like it had been stored underwater though.

But the interior wasn't as bad as you'd think ...

Proper rivet counter herenerd That is a 2A.

It is all about a very subtle difference with the headlights.

laugh Just needs a skateboard and a BMX strapped to the roof for proper effect!
It would have been pretty cool if RR had bought the car and got the mechanics going to show it can 'still proceed' even in that condition. I think a vehicle that looks like that would probably attract more attention than a new Ghost or whatever ostentatious barge they offer these days.

Why would you try and auction something like that? Even running a jetwash over it(granted at the risk of dislodging bodywork that isn't stoutly attached anymore) would make it look better.

Because it wouldn't then be or look like a "barn find" - those two little words mean that it will add a few more grand onto what punters are prepared to bid.

More like a couple of hundred, it made £1800

Patently not a barn(other varieties of farm outbuilding are available) find; more a 'left under some trees to accumulate enough sap, lichen and leafmould to create a self-sustaining eco-system' find; leaving that st on it does not add authenticity, it just looks like st. In any case it's a knackered old Shadow and is worth buttons whether or not it has 'authentic' green slime growing on the bodywork.

It's probably worth entering it into the Turner Prize with some poncy name such as 'The Fate of Capitalism' or similar.

Whilst walking the dog, found an old Defender reg RFO255. In a very sorry state!
That's a bit odd, RFO is most likely an age related plate, so it lost its original plate and someone applied to DVLA to get that one. Usually once they've been through that the vehicle's restored and running.
It's very odd, as the DVLA thinks it has a 0CC engine.

Has it been converted to electric power? spin

Indeed, RFO never issued by Radnor (they moved to suffix plates after EFO) and DVLA allocated GFO to YFO inclusive for age related marks between 1994 & 1996.

Someones pride and joy, ..I'm imagining it new in a showroom and lovely salad days out with the family when the weather was kinder.

Now look at it. frown
