Well those are quite sought-after in the classic Audi fraternity – they're very nice cars.
I had one from new in 1985. Worst car I ever owned. It was like a kit car in reverse with stuff and trim falling off. Gearbox mount sheared off, and when you jack it up you can't open the doors due to the distortion. The ignition switch disintegrated, had to hot wire it to get to an official Audi dealership only to have all the guys come out to take notes of how to do that!
Did I get a replacement switch? No!! They couldn't find a part number instead, they directed me to a breakers who had a few 90's they took parts off! Track rod ends failed after 20k miles, and as the adjusters (between the rod end and the rack arm) rusted solid so I couldnt fit the new rod ends supplied by Audi. The adjusters were now obsolete, and they wanted me to buy the upgraded entire steering system! £££!!.
In the end I took the adjuster parts to a local engineering shop who made them for me out of stainless.. ..'kin pita!!!
Hit the back of a Vauxhall Nova at 15mph in a traffic queue on a rainy day. Audi damage? Bonnet, valance, headlight, bumper, headlight washer system totalled. Nova damage? Cracked stoplight lens..
Sold it asap and waited for the new owner to come back, but he never did, thank God. Never so glad to see the back of that car!
Audi.. weak, fragile, parts very expensive and quickly out of service, pray you never hit anything in one as you WILL come off second best. If these cars are now classics, to the prospective owners I say, may God have mercy on your soul.

Christ, what was in the back of THAT Nova - most were made of the metal the French rejected as being too thin!Nudged a Nova with a Fiesta at a roundabout many years ago, back when I was young and didn't EXPECT the car in front to go from stopped to moving to changing their mind. I only had about 5ft acceleration space in a 950cc Ford and completely stoved in the rear of the Nova, writing it off. The d/s bumper capping was knocked out of place on the Fiesta.
And those are 80s cars, you'd have thought 60s stuff might be thicker, but when I clouted the rear end of something modern - 1980ish - probably a Capri or something - in my '69 Hillman Hunter in a roundabout queue, so slow,, I got out to inspect the damage, there was hardly anything on his bumper, but my front wing had been crushed back to the wheel nearly ...
Cost me about £200 to get fixed - 35 years ago, that was a lot of money ...

And yet mine was the reverse. Bought it at 76k at about two years old, ran it every day until the second clutch went at 272k. Replaced two wheel bearings, the other two are still original. Never replaced a ball joint or a track rod end, regularly did rear calipers but mainly because the "new" ones weren't all that good. Did front wishbone bushes twice, but never touched the rears. Still got it, it's the next project.- snipped more about Audi coupe -

Wonder what has happened to that? Last tax & MOT in 2008 with only 66k on the clock. While checking out a local garage, I found a mid 90's CL600 merc along with a W124 E500. Both slowly rotting away. I'll try and grab some pictures next time im there.
