Always had a soft spot for the old Skoda RapidRear engined, rear wheeled drive. Interesting shape - after 30 years Skoda is just beginning to throw off the dead hand of sub VW budget brand styling.
Shame they were underpowered. If they had an excess of power would that give you the thrills of an old 911 (including throw you in a ditch backwards handling) in a Skoda?

Well this is my daily driver, I've not seen another in the year I've owned it. They didnt sell that well over here when new (too expensive), they built less than 400 in RHD and as far as I can ascertain there are about 6 left in the UK

As someone complained about some of the cars on here being too old to still expect to see them I've been thinking about some newer metal:
Never THAT common but you used to see one from time to time. Not so much any more:
Actually had to check but yes, Vauxhall ARE still making the Insignia.
I can remember when the equivalent Chavalier and Vectra we 2-a-penny but can't remember the last time I register seeing an Insignia - and I don't think they look SO anonymous that I just don't register them!

The Insignias are everywhere, and you may want to keep your eyes peeled for a nice grey one on the M40, it's a very easily missed unmarked Police car. Don't ask me how I know :PNever THAT common but you used to see one from time to time. Not so much any more:

When did anyone last see an Austin Metro? I'm talking about a bog standard one, not a 6R4 seen either autocrossing or at a show somewhere.
I learned to drive in a black limited edition Metro in 1988. The instructor's wife had a similar limited edition metro in red with 'red hot' graphics on it. She was too! Can't remember what my instructor's black Metro was called, just her's.
Not particularly brilliant cars, no worse than anything else around at the time, just suffering slightly from only having a 4 speed box as they aged.
There's a couple who walk their dogs on the common at about the same time we walk our 4 legged hooligan They have 2 bog stdio Metros, a red one and a dark brown affair. Also own a V8 MGBGT, just to reset the PH cred.I learned to drive in a black limited edition Metro in 1988.
