Ordinary Cars That Have Disappeared Off The Radar
Discussion
My dad was always into Renaults in the 70's and 80's. We had a Renault 6 (Called Bov) and he then got a cak brown coloured Renault 14 Reg Number FAC143T (remember them) from a Renault Dealer in Stoke, in Coventry in 1979. I remember avidly reading (the now exceptionally pov) spec list and all of the options and thinking wow...I was 10 I think it rusted away in about 4 years.
Then was replaced with a Citroen BX which was a really great car with the self leveling suspension (would have made a crap getaway car). So yeh Stance boys, we were rocking that look in the 80's Interestingly I noticed a really spanking nick BX GTI 16v parked on drive just round the corner. Its black and looks good even now surprisingly. Bit of a tarmac terrorist in its time I recall.
My first car was a canary yellow Talbot Samba 1.0. It was scarily light and you could touch the door handles on the floor cornering it. I had a mental French friend called Didier and he drove his knackered old Renault 5 like he'd just stolen it and used to like seeing how fast he could corner it without rolling it (left arm out of the window and fag in his mouth as he was doing it). Oddly enough he never rolled it and he really did try.
I replaced it with an Opel Manta GTE which was a fantastic car of which I have mega fond memories. It was utterly mint and I did it up in all of the Irmscher bits so it looked like an Exclusive. My mates had an i200 and one had an i240 which both go for bonkers money now. Indeed an original Manta 400 went for 55k at a classic car auction 2 weeks ago, just down the road.
My biggest regret was being offered an Opel Ascona 400 in 1993...which was knackered to be fair even at the time and I couldn't afford to restore it. They are worth insane money now....I still lust after them to this day. I think most ended up in Ireland and were turned into privateer rally cars....

I saw an Audi 100 CC Avant in traffic yesterday, they used to be a common sight on the roads, sadly I would guess many were lost in the scrappage scheme
According to the list of stuff traded in under that scheme, there's about 30 Audi 100 Avant or Estate. It's hard to know what to trust, really, because the same list shows an Audi A5 (surely too new?) and a load of other stuff, and is filled up with the randomness of DVLA data. droopsnoot said:

AIUI, the list was whatever Wayne in the showroom filled in. So the "Audi A5" was probably what <something> was traded in for.A bit of a trip down memory lane for me!
In the late 1980s at the company I worked for my boss's boss had a 2.0GL Sierra Sapphire, his boss had a Sierra 2.0GLSi hatch and another manager had a Belmont SRi.
All good cars, although I only ever drove the Sierras.
The GLSi was worlds better than the GL, but I still preferred my own car even if it was older - I mean, it was a Capri 2.8 Injection!

Had a couple of 1.6i Ghia's when I was in my late teens, loved them! I actually preferred them to an XR3i, which looking back as seems a bit strange now! I have been 'browsing' eBay looking at 1.6i Ghia's for a while now, just waiting for the right time to mention it to the wife! https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.551587,-0.120660...
