Great stuff.
If you like this sort of thing I'd recommend a trip to Reims Motor Museum, which was has a collection of designs from Philippe Charbonneaux, not only cars but publicity trucks and other industrial design works. I think he was or will be celebrated at the last/next Paris Retromobile show. Most stuff from a bit later than the 30s and 40s but a real flair for the flamboyance of the era.

They also built this wonderful coupé on chassis 57601, but that was sadly written off after a crash in 1952 and later a fire in 1964 (the chassis is still with us though).https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corsica_Coachworks

wasn't there a british version of something like this? i'm not at home to rifle through my old copies of octane but i seem to remember an article on one being restored. seem to recall the designer was a british modernist architect or something along those lines and the current owner might have been gordon murray [not 100% on that mind you].
I think you are thinking of the Dymaxion that was recreated by Norman Foster? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dymaxion_car
But there were also Streamline Cars that were in fact British:

Ah well, if we're doing "aerodynamic marvels" then you'll want the DarkRoastedBlend articles by the same name.

There are also several cars that have already been posted, including the Dymaxion and the Fascination.
I'd really recommend the articles as they are quite interesting, with links to other articles too.
