Arguably, only the V5 has history as the Capri was almost certainly re-shelled. So Trigger's broom is about as authentic...

Same auction................The 'Minder' Capri 2.0s also sold for 52k and George Cole's Jag from the same programme made 32K

That makes anyone with a Yellow Reliant Robin...............Millionaires!!

Old gits buying the important cars from their better years.

How much is a genuine Sweeney Consul or Granny worth?

I've never understood why people want to pay silly money for a fantasy provenance such as appearing on TV rolleyes.

I've not looked at the individual results in that sale but it appears that generally sanity prevailed;
out of the 103 cars entered only 25 cars made their reserve under the hammer and only a further 33 bids were converted into sales on the day.

We may find out eventually, the genuine 'NHK 295M' and 'RHJ 996R' are both currently being restored. There is another Mk1 Consul doing the rounds dolled up as 'NHK', but its V5C will tell a different story... wink

I reckon it could certainly be 7 figures in US$

This is much the same albeit on a much smaller scale

Well, I've enjoyed various 3-litre Capris but 53k for a triggers broom is mad, although it's great that all the work has been done and the 3.0S still exists. I'm interested in the 70s TV cars, the white Dolly Sprint, NHK 3000GT Consul, Sweeney Mk3 2000 XL, etc.

A link here re Doyle's RS2000 -

And another link re the 390GT

I'll have to get my mate to have his 2.8 with 580 miles appraised if this makes these sort of figures!

If it's mint and has provenance, I would expect it to do exactly that. Here's a low-mile 2.8i that sold recently for £54K .

We'll find out one day when it gets sold, unless the long term current and very secretive owner has a family that is willing to continue keep the car in it's current 'stashed away' never to be seen state once he's shuffled off this planet (if that isn't what has already happened)

The surviving '68 Charger of the two used in the film was reputably found a few years ago, in a sorry state, and is supposedly being restored.

When you look at some of the junk rich people spend money on as investments I think this is a bargain!

Wow - at least the Professionals Capri was a 3 litre, so the 2 litre from Minder was the crazier one!

I was there for the bike auction the day before, and the Jag was badged as a Daimler - hopefully it has always been a Daimler, or someone may be in for a surprise!

Well, even the Yanks think this Mustang is overpriced and it's practically new but still cheaper than that Capri.

To be honest if someone has the money and they want something then let them buy it. No way would I spend 53k on a Capri but if that's what someone paid at auction then that's what it's worth! eek

The guy who has the actual Sweeney Consul has been doing it for years though, always says he has too much other work on to put any time in on it, never shows any pics of it etc ... At least that is the impression I used to get from reading his (few) posts on the now, sadly defunct, Sweeney site.

I think it is RHJ 997R not 6 ...

another bit of trivia The 3500 SDI Rover driven by Steed used in the New Avengers is also driven by Cowley in the Professionals

sadly together with his 2.8 Granada's were scrapped years ago
