Mine from a few years ago. I loved the M6 wheels.
oddly they look OK although normally when I see M6 wheels on anything let alone as small as an E30 they look awful. Are they reps? The offsets look more like normal 3 series than I'd expect on a 6er
Yes, reps. It's an E28 BTW.

My £50 XJ6 came with the original 15" Teardrop alloys and five perished tyres.
A set of later 18" Penta wheels with reasonably decent tyres cost me £120 off ebay.

No brainer cost-wise, and I don't really care if it doesn't look original...

Don't worry, I won't try and pass it off as a classic, it's simply just another eighty year old car with the wrong wheels on... (Funnily enough tho', "classic car" insurance doesn't present any problems).

When was it customised? In the 60s?

My 635CSI came on 'M' parallels when i bought it, definitely not to my taste, but i left them on until after the body restoration before sourcing period BBS's.

Much better. smile

As said earlier it's not the age of alloys, its the style that detracts. Low profiles spoil the look of many cars, particularly if the're narrow and don't fill the arches. 4X4s on low profiles rolleyes
As nice as your car looks with the standard BBS wheels on I think they look better with modern wheel sizes, & lowered but it's just a personal opinion.

looking good there, but i prefer the original BBS look
I tried 17 inch wheels on mine but much prefer 16's both aesthetically and for comfort too.

I'm afraid that anything bigger looks like Nike Air Mags rather than a pair of nicely broken in Cheaney brogues.........
Got 10"x16" BBS's on my Corvette..

I guess it depends on the application - these look pretty much perfect to me...

They're spot on & look much better than the originals, I do like the pro touring look.
What's pro touring mean?

I like the look of that. What size & brand tyres are they and do you have trouble sourcing them?

I like solid wheels, or nearly solid.

Seeing all that suspension/brake crap behind spokey-dokey 'gun carriage' wheels ruins the look of many a nice car for me, especially in black as you can't see the wheel when its turning and all you get is the above mentioned running gear. Something to consider when you buy aftermarket wheels.

My ultimate wheel is those awesome Borranni deep offset wires as used on '60's Ferraris..

Fronts are 255/50x16 Kumho's and 295/50x16 Coopers on the rear (..this size is a nightmare to find in the UK). On my third set! Cooper/BFG/Maxxis/Hoosier and MT make them in that size. Might try MT Drag radials next time..

The Coopers are lethal in the wet and even in the dry now that Ive added -ve camber and more +ve caster to the front.

I suspect that isn't looking at them in an unbalanced view point.

Proportion wise and styling wise, they are fine. Whether you like them or not is something else.

As a rule, out of proportion always looks odd, too big, or too small. And is done for dramatic affect. Which will or won't appeal to people. But keep the proportions sensible and you end up with a balanced look regardless.

Got it..

Ok I suppose as long as the improvements are hidden, i.e. stock ride height, stock looking or solid wheels, and tyres with a large/deep sidewall.

Just my old skool tuppence!! My Corvette's sidewall is 6" deep! If its good enough for stock musclecars/drag cars (..and F1 too, not that I care/watch about that crap!) then its good enough for me.

I know..

I regard tall spokeys with rubber band tyres with the same disdain that Brian Sewell regarded towards modern art.. biglaugh

Tongue was firmly in cheek as far as "modern alloys" are concerned (they're forty years newer than the car!)... most of the custom work (4.2 Jaguar MkX running gear) was carried out over about ten years through the 1970s and early 1980s.

I think my car looks just right on its factory original steel wheels. Even the chrome rim embellishers some people fit I personally think look pants.

I agree your car looks just right with its original steel wheels. However I also think my car doesn't look pants with its stainless steel wheel trims. biggrin

Those trims are original fitment for some export markets, pretty common on UK cars too although not from the factory.

My dad's choice, not mine. I thought they looked absolutely dreadful and completely out of character with the age of the car.

It's now got 15" minilites, which suit it down to the ground.
