I am also of the right age group to remember this from Chelsea cruises and Custom car shows of the early 80s.

Ally Pally etc.

This does look familiar but I have a terrible memory nowadays.

More strength to your arm chap. I will be interested to see how it emerges post-revitalisation.

Brilliant thread, just my era. Never ventured down to Chelsea but used to attend the Belle Vue Custom Cars shows in Manchester and an avid reader of Customer Car and Street Machine at the time.

That was awesome - thanks for posting. The clothes are a real blast from the past (the sleeves pushed up on a bomber jacket). All very Nik Kershaw. Did your love of customising help in your career choice or was it always just a hobby?

Enjoyed watching that. This was when driving was still enjoyable and the anti-car lobby hadn't yet took hold. It was about to though, as the tone of the presentation was hinting at.

Great build, glad you still have it.

That takes me back. I was a member of Don Valley cruisers and we used to drive down to Chelsea to the cruise as it was the coolest thing at the time.
When people started doing burnouts with open headers that was when the well connected residents found a way to restrict the cruise.
It was interesting the cyclist (he is probably a road engineer now) and the adverts. How tame they are now as controls to stop performance were put in place.

Now, that brought back some memories as I remember seeing this on TV when it aired. I recorded it and vaguely remember the full programme featured some other youngish adults in their Mustangs.

There's a remote chance that I still have that VHS recording somewhere.

Good stuff Streetrod, a little bit of UK motoring history smile

Have you still got the '34 in the works ?

Be good to get both cars out together!

Loved the vid, took me back to trips down from Aberdeen to Santapod in the late 80's early 90's and spotting such cars in London + reminds me of a look in by Ed Turners (Unusual Autos?)

P.S Streetrod, rather than Eddie Murphy I think LH has copied your look biggrin

Great video and even better knowing you still have the car and it passes to another generation.

I was worried at first as I thought you were the moaning bloody cyclist !!

Ditto, it was a great bit of nostalgia when I opened the video. Nice one Mr Streetrod, fantastic to see you are still an enthusiast and haven't drifted off to playing golf or something! I vividly recall watching this enviously with my mates wishing we had something like the Chelsea cruise to attend (nothing like it in the North). I also remember my mum and dad being appalled at the old Beetle being cut up despite it being obviously knackered (they were old school VW enthusiasts from a time when it was embarrassing to drive around in one).

I the end it's just another one of those clumsy socio-political piss-boiler devils advocate documentaries "with a message" that proliferated during the 80s, and have come back into fashion. However as a time capsule of a simpler age it's awesome.
