The rules:

1. Each event will be announced on Sunday at 8pm and will run until the following Sunday until 6pm.
2. Each event will consist of a game mode (either hotlap or drift), a specific car and variant (so if an event says you have to use an 'F40' that means the 'F40' and not the 'F40 S3') and a circuit.
3. You're free to change all setup options except fuel load (which must always be 30 litres), unless the event specifies further restrictions on other setup options such as tyres, drivetrain, limiters or geo.
4. You're free to use adjustable turbos in any car where the option is available.
5. You're free to use adjustable brake bias in any car where the option is available.
6. Events will be chosen which are available to PC, PS4 and XB1 versions of the game.
7. All assists will either need to be 'Off' or 'Factory'
8. Proof of your time/score will need to be posted on this thread to be valid by either screenshot (F12 for Steam users) or even a horrible photo.
9. Championship points will be awarded each week for the top 10 positions:

  • 1st: 20 points
  • 2nd: 15 points
  • 3rd: 11 points
  • 4th: 8 points
  • 5th: 6 points
  • 6th: 5 points
  • 7th: 4 points
  • 8th: 3 points
  • 9th: 2 points
  • 10th: 1 points
Any suggestions for rules/restrictions I've missed, please shout. I'm sure they'll need a bit of refining.

Stay tuned for the first event on Sunday 4th smile

Great, thanks smile I'd question rule 3, as it gives an unfair advantage to people with lots of time free to run the 30 litres down to single figures and get a quick lap time with the low weight that provides.

Open to ideas. What would you do about fuel? I only put it in to stop people setting it to 1 litre and going nuts.

I agree, but the problem is that people with the time will just cruise around until the fuel light comes on and then gun it, whereas those of us with less time will be setting our laps with 30 litres onboard. There's also no way to police it. Pity. Mind you, can you switch fuel usage off? That would work, but then you'd have to prove it...

I think for the most part we'll have to run on the honour system. I also suspect there's going to be an enormous spectrum of talent when it comes to these challenges and even if people were to bend the rules they wouldn't get close to the average smile

I look forward to it! I'll have to miss the first one as I'm on holiday next week in Austria. I'll hopefully join in for the one after that though.

I think if setup is free then you need to let people use assists if they need them (pad users). I don't have any brake feel so I tend to run ABS all the time...I don't have a clue about setups so other than adjusting tyre pressures I will be running default. The more restrictive the rules the less people will join in.

Most cars have ABS so if it's on the factory option, that's fine. Letting people run with a full, artificial TC/EPS system seems a little unfair, though.

I'm not sure I see the link between restricting/allowing setup changes and restricting/allowing driver aids?

With regard to driver aids, in my view any motorsport is a competition based on driver skill, so computers helping the driver are rather pointless. As such, I've never switched any driver aids on in AC and I never intend to - if they would be of benefit to me and make me faster, then I'd rather be slower and have me doing everything. I don't even use a paddle shift or auto clutch unless a car in real life does.

I'd suggest using RSR live timing which polices track limits. Pro settings includes factory assists and fuel use, iirc?
yes RSR provides the fairest level playing field. It also fixes the air temperature too.

Doesn't work for Console versions.

I'd request we have default setup ONLY. It worked well for the Project Cars time trial challenge. Also, please only use the standard cars as consoles obviously don't get the mods.

Let's see how the first event goes with the existing rules and if there's any clear disparity between the times of consoles vs PC then we can look at tweaking. How's that?

Tweaking the setup is part of the fun for me, default setups don't really level the playing field they will suit some people more than others depending on their driving syle.
Driving around a non ideal setup is a skill in itself wink

Adjusting the setup to suit your driving style is similar to driving with assist that suit your driving style (or make it easier for you), pad users in particular would benefit from TC/SC. If it's just for fun as I don't see any mention of prizes, then surely the more the merrier? I appreciate you don't need aids, but some people do. wouldn't it be better to have more people involved than restrict it to hardcore players only?

Have you tried driving without aids? It's really not bad at all. It forces you to be neat and tidy as you would in real life.

Yes and i consistently lock up as I don't know what's happening with the brakes as there is no feedback through my brake pedal...

I'm just saying there will be pad users who might need them to even get around the lap, if the consensus is that aids are off I'll still have a go. I was just trying to advocate for people who might struggle without them in the interests of getting more people involved.
