Does anyone recall a series from the early 90s which was called something like "Me and my car". It featured people talking about their relationships with their cars, how they made them feel, what cars they wanted to own, had owned and so on. I can't find a single mention of it online now though. I really enjoyed it at the time - they were very good at getting the interviewees to open up to the camera.

"The car's the star" I remember only too well. Arrive at shoot at 2pm, arrive home at 6am and the car is shown for about 3 minutes!

A bit of a thread resurrection, but I was just browsing through the iplayer archive and thought I recognised this

Does anyone remember the driving competition between the army and the London car/driving club? It was on Grandstand once a year. It was all off-road and against the clock. It must have been early sixties.
I do! As a small boy I thought Christmas has come early when I saw military offroaders like the 6WD amphibious Stalwarts rally crossing with Palfingers trucks and all sorts on the Grandstand I think it was.
Naturally it was sparsely interspersed with about 8 hours of horse racing.
They had the twin-engined Mini Moke, I remember.

EDIT:
That segment of Grandstand was called "Autopoint".

When I was a kid, an annual "Must watch" programme for Myself and My Dad was the Top Gear RAC Rally Report - Complete with the inspired choice for the theme tune: "Duel" by Propaganda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvzbdjLg_fA

For fans of the early days of group B rallying and "proper" rally cars, and the theme tune, here are some more happy memories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufmmr4_IYtI
Wow! Just watched that and found myself muttering "That's Kielder - that's Castle O'er - that's Hafren Sweet Lamb - that might be Hamsterley..."
I was probably there in some of those shots as I (we - a group of us actually) traipsed around the country every November from about 1976 to 1998 watching the RAC Rally. I still have some of the Rallypak information guides in the garage. smile

Remember seeing a 6R4 prototype during the filming of the BBC rallysprint program at Donnington park in the early 80's, where they pit rally and F1 drivers against each other using a stage through the wood at the bottom of the circuit, an auto test and a race around the circuit. Think maybe Tony Pond was demonstrating it in plain white, think they used TR7's or Rover vittesse for the competition; metro appeared the following year in computer vision colours. Martyn
Austin rover rallysprint was ace.

I can't remember the name...ITV...I think...Friday evening...only lasted one season

Set in a car factory where they used a modified Chrysler Sunbeam....any ideas
T a guess that would be Chancer starring Clive Owen, trying to save an ailing car factory. I thought the cars were heavily modified Fiesta's to be honest. You are correct....bodged Fiestas. I think it was called 'on the line' or similar

Starred David Ryall.....
It most certainly was 'On the Line'. 1983. VERY hard to find anything on it now, not even YouTube. Odd. The struggles of an 'independent' British car manufacturer, Associated British Motors.

Found this thread whilst searching for something else. One of the "Orbits" was indeed given away in a TV Times promotion (the second prize mau have been two "Orbits"). No, actually the other car (must have been a VERY short production line) was presented to the National Motor Museum at Motorfair at Earls Court in 1982 and I suspect they didn't really want it. Not sure if it's still lurking in their store or whether it was disposed of. Conversion from standard was fairly minimal as I recall.

It was 'On The Line'. Visited Gaydon last year and I didn't see it. I suspect it was quietly lost or broken for parts for an XR2 rebuild

Just read this thread from the start. There were 3 things which sprung to mind and wondered if anyone would mention them. Two have been and one I don’t think has.

From A to B: Tales of the Modern Motorist

Deals on Wheels (was actually a late 1990s to early 2000s programme)

The other one was a one-off programme called Cruising to the Max. Quite humourous and a big of nostalgia for some of a certain age

From A to B: Tales of Modern Motoring - "Over the moon with the Cavalier" - one of the most pertinent pieces of TV about reps, ever. Would love to see a catch up episode today looking back at where these chaps are now...

It's so good it totally overshadows the Comic Strip Presents version of the same environment. Surely there are umpteen thesis' written about this for psychology degrees?
