I had two of these from new and then the next Cavalier CD and at the time I thought I'd made it.

To be fair as a young salesman I was driving a Cavalier.......not an L or GL, just a 'blank'

Moving into a Metro would have been a lived up!

Not necessarily a car ad, but a regular in the 70's motoring publications, this Maserati driving pilot enjoying a gasper before taking his plane (and no doubt several air hostesses) to heaven and back was the epitome of cool....

I am sure I have seen the same advert but with a Cortina, rather than the Maserati...

(...goes off to look through 100's of old Motorsport magazines, just to prove himself wrong)

And a bit of Lotus Elan

I remember back in 1987 I got a new Cavalier LX as a company car which had a bit of extra aspirational bling including a factory sunroof and alloy wheels, I thought I was a proper player

Didn't this one have the gimmicky talking dash and red seat belts? Drove a new one straight off of the transporter when just launched back in the day
I think that it was just some early Maestros with the talking dash. I can vaguely remember a story from a journalist who managed to roll one down a hill. Once it had come to a rest, upside down, a synthesised voice could be heard, "oil pressure low".
I don't think the Turbo did but the early MG Montego Efi did, it was different to the Maestro's:

I had an early 2.0EFI Maestro with the talking dash, ironically it would tell me low oil pressure even without rolling it down a hill.

I'd thought it was just fitted to the 1600s. Was it standard the efi's or an option? Mine didn't have it, though it was an Aug 87 car.

It was an early 2.0EFI, on an A plate. Don't know if it was standard or an option before they dropped it.

Indeed - I'll never forget this classic from 1983, with Herr Blohn and the woman you had to write to on the coupon, Miss April Wurst... laugh

And this ad from 1987 sticks in the memory too - wonder how many BMW owners checked their badges, wipers & the pile of their carpets, and then wrote to Uwe Vorlin Vorrit... laugh
