205gti, MK1 golf Gti[only], 1960's mini cooper 'S's, and renault5 turbo, and similar small hatches were fun cars to drive, that's what makes them desirable to own as classics. whereas '3 box' BMW saloons [and MB/Audi] equivelants were boring rep cars/shopping trolleys, I never lusted after one in my youth so IMO they're never gonna be desirable to own as classics [more a case methinks of dealers trying to 'talk them up' here in this thread]. Of those 3 box saloons that havn't made the scrappy already then the sooner they do the better
However there will always be some who like them this summer for example I saw a dozen or so 2002 BMW's [German Marinas] in convoy, when I hadn't seen any of those for probably 20 years, so someone somewhere love's 'em. Each to their own;)
Alfasud and Alfasud Sprint surely? However there will always be some who like them this summer for example I saw a dozen or so 2002 BMW's [German Marinas] in convoy, when I hadn't seen any of those for probably 20 years, so someone somewhere love's 'em. Each to their own;)
Daihatsu Charade, Clio Williams, Corolla GTI, 205 Rallye, Honda CRX, Civic Type R, Toyota T Sport Compressor........... the list goes on
Getting back to the original - S1 106 Rallye (which has already increased in value since your post), it's probably one of THE most underrated out there. 100bhp from 1.3
I believe EVO quoted it "Peugeot's miniature hero" amongst other accolades
This was mine for years.
Owned it, loved it, sold it.

The only thing I find that spoils them is the dim witted steering. 4 turns between locks is just too slow. Especially in a car that likes to oversteer. I also wish mine had an lsd fitted. What colour & spec is yours?
I'd agree with the steering, Ive got a 320i with a manual rack which is much nicer once moving, I've heard good things about swapping the rack for a later BMW one (poss Z3, can't remember now) . I'm not 100% sure if I've got an LSD suspect not or if i have it's not working properly Mines diamond schwartz, completely standard, needs a few little bits sorting but seams to have a good shell which is the main thing. It's done 170k miles but drives reasonably nicely on a miss match of tyres. Got my first puncher in years yesterday so ordered a set of tyres.

Or a late E46 one if you can't get hold of a Z3 one.
did we have the alfa 916 GTV's ? junker TS's still affordable but some are being advertised (and sold) at seemingly high prices
the V6's on the usual sales sites seem to increase in value every month or so. i bought, 3 years ago from a dealer, a nice enough vela blue with the bluestyle interior and a couple of desirable upgrades for £2k. short MoT and i certainly spent on it within a few months of taking ownership (replacing the ill advised but probably £++ suspension "upgrades" cost nearly £500 in parts) but the only V6 currently for sale at that kind of price is a non MoT'd phase 1 with what could be very expensive repairs/maintenance required immediately.
it's still not totally right (forget perfect - ever tried setting the autodrop windows on one of these !!?) but similar vehicles seem to be much, much more £ nowadays
