Please bear in mind that the comments were made on a forum by experienced Alfa people but just looking at it superficially. You only realy know if a Car is rotten when you start poking it with a sharp stick!.
The impression I am getting from the posts is that it was a bit rough superficially but basically sound. It was obviously driving OK to be flung around Goodwood, but was dropping Oil.
Generally speaking the mechanical bits on these cars are pretty robust and all the parts are available so its usually the least of your worries with 105's.
The bodywork is another issue entirely and there are very few if any repair panels for Berlina's, which means they have to be made from scratch, cost would be more than the car!.
The Roll Cage looks decidedly dodgy, being bolted to the floor with no stiffening and odd bends in the verticals. Certainly not to MSA standard if it was to be used for Hillclimbs or Sprints (assuming it fell into a class where that was mandatory).
I still standby what i said I think on the face of it, it looks a good entry into a 105 ownership at a very cheap price, even if it doubled its estimate. At the estimate its worth it for the bits.
Thanks, I appriciate the input, sounds like its just an ugly duckling atm then. The impression I am getting from the posts is that it was a bit rough superficially but basically sound. It was obviously driving OK to be flung around Goodwood, but was dropping Oil.

Will report back if I get hold of this guy!
RE: That cage... Looks pretty shonky, I guess its the case you roll it, that its better than nothing.. but yer, not planning on racing it, just track days, so not too worried!
Was pretty disappointed when I went down to see the Alfa, there were so many little easy to do jobs, that had been done SOOO badly... Just made me question if the serious harder jobs had been to the same slapdash standard...
It also refused to start which I didn't think was a very good start either...
Price wise, it isn't really worth £7100, but good luck to the new owners!

Here in Europe basket cases are fetching more than that - I've just had nearly €5000 for the engine and drivetrain from a 2 liter Berlina. The drivetrain is supposed to be stronger than the other models - Giulia/GT Junior etc - and people building track cars fight to get them.It also refused to start which I didn't think was a very good start either...

The guy who bought it is putting it under a GT Junior race car.

The guy building the GT Junior racer is a Belgian Alfa specialist - he told me.
Seems a shame to bin off the shell as it looked in pretty good nick (all things considered) Would be cool to do some sort of cheap engine conversion into it!
I don' know the buyer of the blue berlina at the auction.

I've a gearbox from a 2 litre GTV languishing in an outbuilding somewhere - FIGHT!sunbeam alpine said:

Never heard this before. I'd be surprised if it was true. The only thing track drivers fight to get are 1300 gearboxes as they have a shorter fifth gear in them.

The bodywork on the Giulia is perfect except for one small patch, but it has no compression on one cylinder. I'd had a price from my usual specialist of about €5000 to completely revise the engine, brakes, replace hoses etc. and get it prepped for the road.
