Think mine was REG. NGD 202V and I loved driving it way back in 1984. The Car prior to the Granada was a
Lime Green Allegro so you can imagine how much better life was after the Granada came along.

Ha ha each to there own with grill choice , here is a couple of more pics I took recently ,
What's funny is when out for a run and when stopped some people say nice Cortina ,
I think cos modern cars are getting bigger , the new Mondeo for example is as big

Interesting comment. I grew up (born 77) when Granada's seemed huge. I bet nowadays (not seen one for yonks) they appear compact. And I bet the Mondeo isn't as big, I bet it's loads bigger!

It's actually referring to my 2.8i Capri.

I don't think I can ever be the sort of person who drives a BMW.

But I do like the way that a 3 series drives.

It's the only car that puts me in mind of a Capri to drive - just with all the rough edges knocked off and about twice the power.

I was brought up on RWD Escorts, Capris, Cortinas and drove a P100 for 8 years. I'm just a big fan of all things RWD.
Phew, I thought I was alone in my RWD fanatiscm!

MKII Cortina
Fiat 125
Rover P6 3500S
Fiat 132 1800ES
MKII Granada Ghia
MKII Escort RS2000
Capri 2.8i
Cavalier 2000 GLS Sportshatch
Capri 2.8i
Scorpio 2.8i
Mercedes 280E
Sierra 2.0 GLSi
Mercedes 190E
Mercedes C280 Sport
BMW 320td Compact
BMW 123d
BMW Z4 Coupe
BMW 325ti Compact
BMW Z4 Coupe

For many years I didn't like BMWs, but there aren't many RWD alternatives these days!

My 325ti feels just like a Capri 2.8i with 20 years evolution - lovely (and they are cheap as chips just now)!

Nice thread ...

I had a champagne gold 2.8 Ghia X with the light sandy coloured interior - front and rear spoilers (the spongy feeling ones) in the early 90s and loved it. It did like a drink though!

Remember seeing this one a few years ago - It's a real stunner. The VHK491S plate is not it's real number plate - that was the number plate used on the Granada 2.8i s in the later series of The Sweeney. The guy who owns it built it as a replica of that car.

It's actual reg is VHK481S and was originally a green 2.8i s Ford press car so close enough and quite an interesting history anyway.

Love all the badges on the back all in different fonts.

New cars are huge, I saw a Saab 900 on the motorway the other day,it was dwarfed by everything around it.
It used to be a big car back in the day.

Rover SD1 (formerly a big car) vs moderns. OK, cheating a bit because the moderns are SUVs, but, even so.

PS: Do you mean Saab 9000? That was a big car in its day. I would say that a Saab 900 was a medium sized car.

Yes it was a 900 , quick search suggests same length as the Granada.
It's big bumpers came in useful parking it in London

Crikey! As long as a Granada? Optics are deceiving, as I think of a 900 as relatively dinky by comparison with a Granada.

Parking by Braille is the way ahead. They ain't called bumpers for nothing!

That reminds me. At school we had a friend (still friends now, occasionally on here, sorry if you read James!) who was quite a boastful lad. His dad had a later than this gen granny (the last model) and it was badged as a Ghia. He always used to say it was a Ghia X, we called BS not stop. Turns out it was after all, and it was an error of either the dealer or factory not badging it accordingly - one of us was shown the logbook/ sales receipt or something equally undeniable.

I saw a Rolls-Royce Corniche next to an Astravan the other day and the Astra seemed just as big! I think it was just a similar height though and that was deceptive.

Also a Rover 800 looked small next to a Focus

Fantastic car BV!

And BTW it is great to see you back on here - I always enjoy your posts, but not as much as your mastery of our wonderful language!

But your purchases are the real highlight to be fair!

I'm looking forward to some updates on your Granny, but also on the rest of your fleet!

Thanks for your kind words. I have posted about the Granny in the Readers' Cars section, and have added updates to old threads about some of my other jalopies.
