Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia

That seems like a very optimistic asking price for a rough-looking car.The speedos on these only have five digits, and coincidentally a surprising number of them are described as 'low mileage'.
[quote=littlebasher]I had 4 of these, all in Ghia X trim.
Probably one of my favorite 'Classics', even in the early 90's there weren't many cars around which had the same level of spec.quote]
Not many maybe, but in 1990 I bought a 1985 Scorpio. It had everything my MKII Ghia had, but also electric sunroof, electric front seat adjustment, heated front seats, electric recline rear seats, air conditioning and if you had the wipers on and put it in reverse the rear wiper would start up!
I still haven't had a car with more gadgets than that!
I know the hatch shape isn't as popular, but I would love to find one of the later 24V Cosworth-engined Scorpios - off to the classifieds!
Now look what you have made me do.

Back in the day I needed a tow car and purchase a Granada 2.8i estate ,it would of been 4 to 5 years old at the time, which I think was called a sportsman it had pictures of little men doing sporting things on the front wings, brown with gold wheels and I'm sure a red pin stripe running the length of the car, never seen one like it so could of been a dealers model.Great car, with the prices of early Range Rovers going though the roof it would make a nice alternative.

The Recaros seemed to be different to any other Recaros used on any other UK Fords of the time.

That would have been the Granada Chasseur limited edition. There was an Escort and Cortina Huntsman limited editions and that may be where your confusion lays.
Cor blimey!
This takes me back.
My dad had a couple of these old barges. Both estates. One, I think, was a Consul rather than a Granada, in black, replete with chrome roof rails and a badge bar on the front bumper. It had belonged to a funeral director's company. Mainly used, I believe, for moving coffins about rather than as a hearse. But for weeks after he bought it my mum would say "I'm not getting in that bloody hearse with you".
The second one was a silver Granada 2.8 Ghia estate. A great car to be in, except when a Metro ran a red light as my dad was taking me back to the station in Swansea to catch a train back to barracks after some leave. The Metro was a wreck. Engine in the passenger side footwell just about. My dad's Granada ended up being written off due to a crumpled rear floor, but it survived the impact of the Metro enough to drive home OK. I ended up walking the rest of the way to the station with no ill-effects, as the Metro had impacted the rear of the Granny, near the rear wheel. One hell of a shock though, I can tell you! I think there may have even been another Granada estate to replace it, but my dad's love affair with big Fords ended with the arrival of a Scorpio (hatchback?) which even he (a former Ford employee and massive fanboy) had to admit was a pretty dire piece of engineering.

I'm interested to see what this 19,000 mile example shall achieve -

My Dad still has his 1993 Granada Scorpio Cosworth that he's had since 1994 and it's still in lovely condition and it's been a garage queen for a few year's now. I still haven't had a car with more gadgets than that!

It's still a cracking car for its age and so lovely and smooth to drive, it's a pretty rare car now as well too.
