That isn't rotten, just some minor surface rust

The engine cut out will most likely be a sensor issue. Does the engine management light come on?

Nice film. Mine had woeful brakes when I bought it too. There was almost no stopping power whatsoever, but I factored that into my budgeting and it wasn't too expensive to put right. I was probably a fool to sell when I did. It was immaculate and running perfectly by then.
Brakes and lights were the real weakness of the 8v/16v vs Evo. Luckily they're a breeze to put right. The only real advantage beyond that is better suspension of which not much can be done. I think I preferred the non Evo looks wise overall. It's more restrained but still has purpose.

A lot of that is accident damage and/or people jacking it up incorrectly. This was rotten...

The first place I would look is if it's overboosting, if it's going out of the Eproms range then there will be a sudden boost cut.I also wouldn't go back to whoever put an MOT on a car with severe corrosion like that!

And finally some of this weeks delights, I generally stick to engines now as it's what I enjoy and do better than most, but every so often I'm caught out by jobs like this. They start off as an engine build, then i'm asked to fit it, then it's "Oh while it's in can you look at some bodywork issues?" and before long it's a huge job, i'll learn, but when its been sent from abroad in a container you can hardly turn it back.
The cills had the rigidity of cardboard and you do wonder what's holding them together sometimes, or what would happen in an accident. At least when it's had all the work done and the strengthening plate kit added it will be better than it was when it left the factory.

Same with E30 M3's too.
I've always loved to look of Intergrale. There's just something about box arches and real motorsport heritage. Their rarity always seemed to make spotting one in the wild a real event and all the sweeter because of it.
Glad to see those rust repairs are being done properly. I went through my M3 and had to deal with rust and previous poor repairs. It was pretty satisfying when the metal work was complete and freshly painted. It makes all the stress, work and expenditure worth while.
Did you manage to diagnose the running issue?

Picked it up yesterday.. mechanic says all ok. He replaced the temp sensor and redid the connectors to the TPS which were just using a connector block. I've not tried it properly yet. Seems to be running better but only the same as before I took it to them before they did the work. Still has an idle issue though it is better. I've got a new ISV valve so will try replacing that today!
I think troublesome electrics are another thing cars of this era share. Especially when people have fitted alarms, stereos etc. In the engine bay though, I think years of heat and old age play their part and I've gradually worked my way through and replaced all sensors etc as I've gone.
Good to hear yours is running a bit better now. Is it totally stock? If so, will you be keeping it that way?
