Thanks to the "Why no love for Vauxhaul Bedford" thread, I finally laid my hands on a FF transfer box. I hope that it will bolt on to the back of the existing 4 speed. Tried to post on CF forum but failed. Does anyone know where I could get a manual or guide to servicing it? Is the "Dow" fluid in a sealed unit and I use normal gearbox oil in the sump?

Anyone decode the casting numbers?

They did have a few experimental CF4x4s back in the late 70s .
They were quite fun on the twisty bits around Dunstable downs ,lots of police doing their advanced driver training in the area in those days .

Did you have a word with the guy who you had the box from? I know he ran his for a while, and was in the business of breaking GM stuff. I remember he told the story of going to the local Vauxhall/Bedford dealer asking about some parts for it, only to be told "they didn't do a 4x4 CF Sir". This was the dealer who had supplied his 4x4 CF from new, if I recall the story correctly.

I'd be surprised if it ran with anything other than standard gear oil; most of the FF hardware seems to have been made for them by GKN's transmission department, so perhaps enquire with GKN. Failing that any decent transmission specialist who can deal with viscous couplings ought to be able to advise how best to proceed.

Maybe Cropredy Bridge Garage (who must know the Jensen FF) could help ?

Just a thought ... Chris
