It was early 90’s. Simon built it with his mate Gary who was a trainer at 3M and travelled the world teaching paint techniques etc. Simon was a partner in Auto Diagnostics on the Bermuda Industrial Estate in Nuneaton. We became very good friends and I am trying to get in touch. They were also building a Droopsnoot Firenza that was being mated to the running gear of a Cavalier 4x4 Turbo.
Hi everyone Simon Bowles was my Uncle and I have been intrigued in finding out about his Ford Escort Cosworth - Unfortunately he passed away on Monday suddenly, shocking the whole family and friends, If anyone knows about where the car is or if it is still on the road I would really appreciate it AceRockatansky said:
I like the MK1 as a road car, much nicer lines and better decals.
But as a rally/track car, a mk2 with wide arches is hard to beat.
I agree with this, as standard mk1 looks much prettier. Wide arch, got to be the mk2 with tarmac arches. Wide, squat, aggressive. I’m not a fan of bubble arches mk1’s at all. But as a rally/track car, a mk2 with wide arches is hard to beat.
But let’s be honest, they’re all awesome

This VIN plate is a fake/re-stamp, not an original one......and that chassis number denotes an export car, not a UK one.
I'd guess this ID was originally an early Halewood made RS1600 for export, rather than a Twin Cam.

Only a museum car would have a VIN plate that clean - and the plate wouldn't be partially covering a hole. This VIN plate is a fake/re-stamp, not an original one......and that chassis number denotes an export car, not a UK one.

Wow....someone really wanted that!It wasn't going to be long before some of those low miles Escort Cossie's that have been squirreled away by some astute buyers 20 years ago+ started to appear at auctions after some of the RS500's started being brought out of hibernation and did silly money.
I'll just leave this here....

Check out the obvious re-pro strut top plate....

Love the advert saying genuine AVO RS1600, and then says BB49 Halewood build number. Err, so its not an AVO build then https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1970-ford-e...

And if it was a BB49 Halewood car, why does it have an AVO build plate attached to the slam panel, which a BB49 coded would not have.
It also was never a RS1600 shell either as it does not have the bulkhead cut-out which all BDA built cars had.
And what is this RS1600 Owners Club?
Another utter muppet chancer seller.
