Is it fair to say that the Mk1 was never that fashionable? Completely overshadowed by the later Mk2 even in celluloid , I seem to remember reading that George Formby credited the car with saving his life in an almost fatal car crash . Has anyone ever owned a Mk 1 , it would be great to hear of some first hand experiences . I suppose People who owned both the Mk1 and Mk2 in period have sadly long departed .
My MK 1 I found in Farnham with one family owner and 18,000 on the clock. It served me very well as you can see and towed all day long at 70mph TarquinMX5 said:
Re the green XJ.
Normally, that wouldn't appeal but, sunroofs (or sunrooves, as I was taught) aside, I quite like it, particularly the interior. Normally the wheels would be a big no-no, however, back in the day, one of the neighbours had a V12 E-type, perhaps 1-2 years old, fitted with similar wheels and wheel arch mods. and as an impressionable youngster, it looked (and sounded) great. Very period. Therefore, whilst the sunroof makes it a 'no', I go against my usual thoughts and say yes to the rest.
The wheels wouldn't particularly bother me either as I see them as an in period modification . Plenty were fitted and usually Wolfrace .Normally, that wouldn't appeal but, sunroofs (or sunrooves, as I was taught) aside, I quite like it, particularly the interior. It takes me back to the early days of Custom Car and the great John Baldachino ( forgive the inevitably wrong spelling ) which would be nearly fifty years ago . Does anyone remember him ?

That is gorgeous. I think it is a better looking car than the Mk2, especially from the rear 3/4 view. The C-pillar is much nicer lowdrag said:

Lovely car that Lowdrag and a find you must have been delighted by . A short Model run by Jaguar Standards and initially difficult to come by in 3.4 form which I am guessing judging by the Towing use this is ?Definitely a 3.4, which is in the estimation of many people the best engine of them all. Far smoother than the 3.8 (I have had both) and in daily use virtually no power difference. In fact, I am selling the XKSS and will then look for another when the money is available. They are such loveable cars in manual overdrive form and not very expensive these days. £30,000 will buy you a very good example.

This XJ-S near me looks nice, properly sorted and rust-free. LHD will stifle demand a little perhaps.
