How about a thread of pictures of classics taken by people at the time. I'm not talking about Google images, but interesting unseen possibly crackly photos.

I was digging around my garage the other day and found lots of pictures taken around 1972 of me (being a geeky kid) sitting in my Dad's brand new Citroen GS, and being a real Citroen anorak and having my picture taken with various Citroens including a beaten up old Traction and a right-hand drive SM.

What's interesting are the background cars at that time too. cool

Unfortunately I don't have a scanner so can't post them up, but this picture from the old Facel Vega thread is the kind of thing that could be good:

Taken in the early '70s, unseen and a bit more interesting than 'Concours' cars.

Hope you get my drift...

Okay, here goes with a few - first, my Dad's Austin A40, taken around the year I was born...

Next two were taken by Mrs J's grandad in North Devon... not sure when...

Final two are from some commercially sold slides of Oxford, probably late 60s?

A couple of AC 3000MEs from a batch of photos I bought from eBay recently.

Taken around London in the mid eighties.

I've shown this before, but here is my mum with 1947 Hillman Minx convertible at the Open in St. Andrews around 1955. We went all over britain in this car and it never broke down once!!

My grandad in his dad's Wilys Overland, in Paisley, pre 1925, but beyond that I can't be sure.

Have some grass track racing photos from 1969 taken with the Olympus Trip 35.

Now I'd love it if someone could tell me if these people are still around. I'd present him with an A3 enlargement when I am next in the UK.

Hi Lowdrag

Brooklyn Engineering are still around, but have moved from Chandlers Ford to Nursling in Southampton. Looks like the business has changed hands, but I'm sure they would appreciate a copy of your photo !

I love threads like this

(colours all faded)
Here's my Vaden Plas 1100 in 1978(?) with Mrs Beer (then mearly miss slimline tonic water) told to stand in front of the aftermarket fog light to hide it as it was broken - note sheepskin covers over the Vanden's leather seats to stop the transfer of heat in the summer and cold in winter

Here is miss slimline tonic water's first car from 1979(?) a Fiat 850 which when bought had a large tin of Dulux in the (front) boot the same colour as the car! We had driven a friend's dog out to go for a country walk

This is one of the best bits of the ITV4 re-runs of "The Professionals" and "Minder" - all the stuff you can spot in the background as they drive around.

As a small lad I naturally insisted upon being photographed in front of anything remotely interesting.

I've got a fabulous one of me in front of a Renault 5 Gordini Turbo in Marbella, c 1985 somewhere.

biggrin Know what you mean. I had pictures in front of a Dino, Pantera, Merek and Miura taken in the South of France around 1977.

Must still be at my mother's house somewhere.

Dads 1st car, 1975. Funny, he sold the car after an unfortunate crash, 1976. I'm with my 1st for 13 years now.
