You might like this one,

That looks like a Singer and is it Merlin Minshull stood with it ?

Sue
Yup that's him. It's a 1 1/2 litre car (note the largerfront brake drums) and very well known in Singer circles.. His book 'Guilt Edged' is well worth a read.
I have a copy of the book and know the guy who now owns the car. He became a good friend of Merlin's in the later years of his life and has built up a great collection of photographs and history to go with it. It is indeed a fascinating story - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlin_Minshall
I met Merlin at the SOC annual dinner many years ago where he was guest speaker. He was a great speaker and was signing copies of his book afterwards.

Some absolutely brilliant photo's here... Amd mph's stand out as a great reason to take colour slide pic's again.

As for the OP, vixen, apart from the genius thread, I think you give all ginger bespectacled young boys hope when they see the shot of your wife.

Good work... on all counts sir.

Thanks - glad you like them. A few more...

MPH - to answer another poster's question, your car was featured in Classic & Sports Car, September 2006 issue. I was the journalist that drove the car and wrote about it - absolutely fascinating story and I went and met the bodyshop who made it in the first place.

The gentleman who accompanied the owner, Colonel Rixon Bucknall on his journey that is pictured here was a man called George Griggs. He presumably took the photographs that are posted above. Oddly, a couple of years after I first heard the name George Griggs, I learnt more about him as he was one of the founding members of the AC Owners Club and member number 1. I only discovered this because George Griggs raced an AC in the club races - which turned out to be a 1953 AC that I am currently (and very slowly) restoring.

It was a shame because while I was researching the history of the Jaguar Special pictured here, I took the decision NOT to speak to George Griggs because he was rather frail. Had I known he raced my car in the 50s, then I might have had second thoughts... Funny how so many things are connected in some way!

Anyway, the Rixon Bucknall Jaguar Special is just superb and drives amazingly. MPH - you are a lucky owner!

And here's a photo taken in the Pyrenees in 1991. I have more somewhere taken at Rheims on the champagne tour and at Nicolas Feuillatte on the same tour, which was the 30th anniversary JDC club tour.

Thanks Martin. Yes George Grigs did take the pictures and was kind enough to donate them to me when I first owned the car in the 1980's.
He also documeted each slide and gave a full review of the trip - so I should be able to trace the route.

Spot-on. The picture was taken in Genoa after stopping to buy a newspaper.

Two things about this picture - I take it that this is a lovely summers day? The cyclists look suitable dressed.... 18 layers of superb british summer wear there. Secondly - is this the earliest private plate? Col Rixon Bruckner

Could possibly be. Assume his DOB too?

Without a doubt, the best thread on Pistonheads smile

The history of "private plates" is as old as the number plate. The first number plate A1 was obtained by Earl Russell who wanted the number enough to have camped out all night to secure it.
