I have been enjoying this thread for some time, some great photos and stories to go with them so I thought I would post a couple of photos taken by my father at Santa Pod, not sure when it was but judging by the fashion looks around the late 60's maybe early seventies.

+1 me too, I can remember the reg of the car I passed my test in 38 years ago, the valve clearances on a 1980's 2.0 pinto and the plug gap on a 1300 Ford Kent engine but not my own mobile number now!!

I know exactly where you're coming from. As a kid I lived down the road from University Motors and saw all the new MG models on a daily basis with reg nos; UML3, UML4 and UML5. I knew all about the MGC, Downton Specials etc, wheel variations, colour charts etc and silly things like that stick in your head - can't remember what I had for tea yesterday though rofl

Didn't even know they were made, don't think I've ever seen one.

A quick Google check and they were only made to order.

I'm not entirely sure that they actually were only made to order because I clearly recall seeing three parked in a line at the local dealership around 1964/5. They were three white Corsair GT's although I think most were made in very basic trim hence did not sell well. I'm guessing that few were made in comparison to the four door because nobody really wanted them so most probably were especially ordered but more because of low demand. Oddly though, they now look the better proportioned version and would be better regarded today.type

I could never quite work out what the Corsair was meant to offer that the Cortina didn't.

All I remember is that the seats were comfier.

We used to fit them (from the scrapyards) to Mk I Cortinas. Along with the 2000E box smile

I'm guessing late 6o's for this, & whilst I'm looking out over Dewsbury centre now, I'm struggling with my bearings. Is that modern block Empire House, with the town hall in front? if so I'm just outside the top L H corner not far from the chimney..............
Bob, do you remember the bright red Vantage that was often seen, late 70's early 80's

It appears to be taken from the top of the Minster looking towards Long Causeway.
The old Bus Station is now the site of The Princess Of Wales Precinct. (Argos,Boots etc.)
The grey concretey block top middle is indeed Empire House.

As the photo has disappeared from page 1 since I posted it in 2009, maybe worth sharing this one again - my Father on the RAC Rally in his Mexico.

The 2000E Corsair had a stronger gearbox with closer ratio's, it was common to pick them up from the scrappers to fit to all sorts of Fords, I put one in my 105E with a crossflow 1600 engine and a twin choke 28/36 Webber down draught, it piddled all over TR7's that were new at the time, eeee bye gum, those wer't days lad!

I can't remember if I've ever added some of my old cars, so here goes.

My tastefully "Customised" 1.1 Escort with Chrome custom grille, Spotlights, Brown (hand painted) dashboard and cosmic wheels. The brakes must have been an optional extra not supplied with this particular car. Bought for £90 and sold three years later for £50 not including the wheels.

My Spitfire. Fun car which I should have looked after a bit better. Later stolen and although we eventually tracked down the new owner, a cock up by the Police with their report and the claim that the guy bought it off a bloke in a pub car park for cash, meant that I never got it back.

My dad's Mk1 Luton Bodied Transit, by this time, hand painted in purple (he claims that's the paint he had , so that's the paint he used!). This is the vehicle that I learned to drive on and the whole family loved it. Eventually sold to a guy who used it to transport his motorbike collection back to Germany. My mustard coloured Datsun 1600s in the forground, a really great and quite fast car far as I was concerned at the time. Though must have started rusting before it left the factory.

Our next transit, which seemed like a rocket ship compared to the previous one. This was an ex Kodac van. My Datsun in the foreground again
