My guess is rain erosion. Look what it's done to the top of that building on the right.

This is my father's red TC, taken in about 1958 during a camping trip to Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.
The MG literally shook itself to pieces along the rough "Bridle Track" that led to a riverside campsite - he sold the car soon afterwards.

A bit too recent to be truly "classic", but this was my Mariner Blue MX-5 and a friend's Ford Capri Clubsprint taken around 1993.

The MX-5 I'm sure you all know about.
The Capri, however, was Australian built, FWD 1.6l, based on the Mazda 323/ Ford Laser platform.

Two things about this picture - I take it that this is a lovely summers day? The cyclists look suitable dressed.... 18 layers of superb british summer wear there. Secondly - is this the earliest private plate? Col Rixon Bruckner
I think the plate is from Derbyshire and yes, it was his date of birth.

confused the car and the cyclists are respectively on their r/h side of the road - a great photo regardless of location

Here's a couple of my car which were given to me by the previous owner, I have no idea when or where they were taken but the one side-by-side with another MKIII I suspect was perhaps taken at a race track or, more likely, a garage that services racing Feltham Astons. The other is I assume outside the car's previous living accommodation - the colouring of the photo makes for a rather strange effect don't you think?

The Cortina in the ad' was mine, and I converted it, using a Mk2 3 litre Capri Essex engine with the tubular manis.

Wish I could buy it back for that price now. cry

....Or you could pay more for a wonderful Allegro, above. rolleyes

Not quite a classic, but when did you last see an early Sierra ?
Mums poverty spec 1.3 Sierra, Dad bought himself a 2.0 Ghia and got a "deal" at the same time as he bought Mum this, though I'm sure the sales guy was pleased to be shut of it

Sad that the tin box Escort in the background will probably be worth more money now. rolleyes

Those Opels were nice quality, quick, and decent handling cars (maybe equivalent to a big Audi now ?).
