maybe an E93 as said, but could be a E493 Prefect which would have been newer, with headlights built into the wings
First registered in Liverpool August/September 1953 so one of the very last to be sold before the new 100E was introduced. My guess is that it was either the green or dark fawn colour..both popular during those last years.smile

Very good detective work there, all I knew was that the car was new between 52 & 55. I will see if I can find out the colour!

Yep.

Looks like the product of a threesome involving a Jensen Healey, and Alfa Spider and a Lotus Europa.

Here's some scans from around 1987/1988:

BB built tin top convertible 'Magic Top' for a sheik.

Note the absence of a wicked zorst or bling wheels. Tuning or modification in the 1980s were so different - the Magic Top's styling tries to look silent. When electrically opening the roof, the C-posts would lower into the car's body while the roof top slid back to rest on the boot. The boot spoiler was there to accommodate the rear end of the metal roof when driving open.

Same car, note the distinctive alcantara interior with colour spectrum striping - typical for BB cars together with the then newly developed nacre paint finish.

The full car would cost around 250k DM then. A stock 560SEC was less than half of that.

Some press pictures for the Magic Top, showing the principle of the roof opening (large pics!):

Were they the same people who did the 380 SEL 4-door convertible for the Dutch Royal Family?

I don't think so, however they've designed some 80s icons, such as the CW311, which later has been produced by Isdera. Here's some pictures of other concepts http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-...

I'm not sure that "taste" was anywhere on the list when dreaming up that dreadful interior! Also puzzling is the picture of the convertible with very small wheels..the wheel arches look gigantic for some reason. What they do bring back is the NEC in 1983 with Culture Club singing "Karma Chameleon" whilst battling through the crowds surrounding the many white plastic coated Mercedes S Klasse Coupes..so many were given this treatment that there must have been a shortage of "Gold Medallion Men" to buy them!coolbiggrin

That was a rare bird, a 2 door Corsair!!
Didn't even know they were made, don't think I've ever seen one.

A quick Google check and they were only made to order.
I'm not entirely sure that they actually were only made to order because I clearly recall seeing three parked in a line at the local dealership around 1964/5. They were three white Corsair GT's although I think most were made in very basic trim hence did not sell well. I'm guessing that few were made in comparison to the four door because nobody really wanted them so most probably were especially ordered but more because of low demand. Oddly though, they now look the better proportioned version and would be better regarded today.type
We actually had a Consul Corsair in the 60's which was two door and bought from a dealership forecourt. It had an in line 4 1500cc engine and very weird indicator and wiper stalks; it was the the precursor to the more familiar V4 Corsair.
Dad had a Corsair GT and thought it was a great car. Much preferred it to the Mk2 Cortina that replaced it.

Many of you will have seen this pic before on here, but Dad also owned the first Tuscan V6 to leave the Bristol Avenue factory following the move from Hoo Hill.

Built December 1970 and invoiced on 4th January 1971.

Here it is when it was new.

And for anyone who doesn't look at the "Classics left to die" thread, here is the same car, as found in May 2012.

I like that!

I didn't know that look (slammed and Fuchs alloys) was actually period, I thought it was a modern retro thing.

How much better it looks on it's correct wheels and suspension! I hate the fad of destroying VW's with stupid wheels etc. which must make them simply dreadful to drive and mighty dangerous in a corner or quick stop.

My guess for the colour scheme..black over Coral Red with dark brown seats! I always thought they looked the best in that! Rare in the UK when new, I first saw one at Black & White Garages of Harvington around 1958/9. Memories...smilesmile

Was it period for the Samba bus which started production in 1951, but Fuchs alloys were not available until the early 1970s?

To be fair it's not destroying them, all the mods can be reversed.
