Yes, raced at Topcliffe too (in fact it was my first event as a novice at the tender age of 12). Never raced at Lindholme, but did use the circuit to run engines in after a rebuild.

Looking very carefully at the Austin van in the picture, it is the earlier A50 version with the smaller front grille and side chromium strips dating from 1957/8. It is not the later A60 (not "55") which has the much wider and thinner grille as in the grey van above.

There was no A50 van. The A55 van was introduced late '57 with the 1500cc engine and the smaller grille and continued to 1962 when the A60 van was introduced. The A60 had the wider grille and mechanical upgrades from the car including the 1622cc engine. There were Morris derivatives too known as the "half ton" van, same except the badge.They were all replaced in 1972 with the Marina van

As kids, my brother and I loved it to bits. Sadly it didn't stay in the family very long and my parents committed the truly unforgiveable crime of part-exchanging it for a Talbot Solara! Their excuse being that we boys were growing up and so the family would need a bigger car.
Sat angrily in the back seat on the Mini's final journey to the dealer (Stephen Rayns, Leicester), my brother and I muttered all the way there and told our parents that we refused to be driven back home in the ghastly Talbot. Even as 11 & 13 year olds, we knew our parents were making a terrible and embarassing mistake. Of course we eventually gave up the struggle and the Mini was gone.
A few years later we received a phone call from the police informing us that they had found the Mini upside down in a Fenland ditch and that it had been stolen and used as a getaway car. They wanted to know if we could assist them with their enquiries.
I had a girlfriend with a Clubman. Fitted on the front were two giant Cibie Bi-Oscars that her father had insisted would help her see in the dark. Sadly her parking was as poor as her night vision and they were always being hit. I remember driving through Windsor one evening with her lights shining at planes landing at Heathrow.

Ah..the perils of the Wikipedia search! Robin, I was there in 1956 and can assure you that the early vans were badged "A50" and can be spotted by the dished version hubcaps that were shared with the A40/50 saloon cars from 1954/6. The van was designated A50 to separate it from the new 1957 Austin A55 Cambridge saloon having a lower output 1498cc "B" series engine. The van soon became an "A55" though gaining the standard domed hub caps from the new A55 car. How do I know?..our local greengrocer and also the butcher both bought new grey ones so I saw them every day. Later, in 1966/69 I worked in Berkeley, Glos which is a small farming village and the A50/55/60 van and pickup were the battered and rusty wheels of choice by farmers back then.They were all replaced in 1972 with the Marina van
