Definitely a Fiat, possibly a pre-WW1 FIAT 15, similar to this one: http://www.prewarcar.com/prewar-my-prewarcar/share...

They were also used widely by the Allies during WW1.

Thanks Roy, I'd seen that vehicle but wasn't sure if my great Grandad's truck was later as the gear shift was inside? It's a shame that there isn't a lot of information that I can find on early commercial vehicles but then it is a hundred years ago!

I keep trying to work out which of the many shades of blue it actually is. I remember it having a slightly grey tint to it, certainly not as bright blue as many you see.

Looking here, I think it's Clipper blue, but still not 100% sure.

I think our old mini was aqua.

The gearstick and brake are mounted on the outside chassis rail, which would be inside the cab, where fitted.

Great picture, but slightly inaccurate caption.

DRS 1 is not a Pathfinder. Generally referred to now as Riley RM, they were marketed as the 'One-and-a-half Litre'(RME) and the 'Two-and-a-half Litre'(RMF) but didn't carry any model id - other than the 2.5 having lighter blue Riley badges.
They both looked the same from behind, but the 2.5 had a longer bonnet (and wheelbase).

The Pathfinder replaced the RMF and had an altogether more modern look.

Of course you're absolutely correct. Brain not engaged. The results pages lists it as a Pathfinder which is why I tagged it without thinking.
Maybe they entered a Pathfinder but arrived in the RM? The event had a number of Pathfinders running.
Thanks for pointing my error out.

Here's a later Two-point-six that competes regularly these days. It's beautifully prepared.

Leaning on a Wartburg 353 I think. Not a common car even in their day, IIRC.

They're very similar colours especially in old pictures, but aqua looks to be more of a greeny blue and I definitely remember the Traveller being a more greyish blue. Of the pictures I've posted, I think the one coming off the train shows the colour most accurately - the first one has a blue cast overall, and the last one is rather pale - though it could have faded over the years!

Dad made this kit of the car when they owned it, I don't know if he painted it with the real paint (could have been tricky - cellulose paint on plastic is not a good mix) but I don't think it's far off:

...and yes, it's a pretty rare kit as well!

I used to sell Wartburgs as new cars. Good to see one again. I loved the 2 stroke engine & freewheel, the rest of the car wasn't so good but they were roomy, cheap & we sold them by the bucketload.

Wartburg also rallied the cars for a few years, I remember them plodding round Grizdale at the time wondering if they were going to be the next Saab. Turned out not to be the case.

Yup, agree with everything said there - a lot of fun but not what you'd call reliable. I'd like to drive another if I ever had the chance.
Even now, nearly 46 years on and living in France, where it's often fairly warm, I still wear socks and sandals! biggrin

Last couple of pictures of our old cars. Not many appearances of these later cars in the photographs I've got.

After the Singer Vogue we moved on to a Marina Estate (TJM157N). Here it is in '77:

This was in turn replaced by a Lada - FRN48S (yes, we probably were going downmarket by now!). 1980:

In '77 I was 16, so was keen to get out on the road on a moped. My Dad had owned bikes in the past (a BSA Bantam and a Matchless 350) so was quite happy with this, and in fact bought himself a bike (KH100) as well:

Once I was 17 I got a KH100 as well, then once I passed my test we both moved onto Honda CB400F's. My Dad's was sold a few years ago, mine is still stored in the garage and may come out again one day. No piccies of these I'm afraid!

That's the end of the "our cars" story. There are quite a lot of other pictures with cars in them which people might like to play "spot the car" with, I'll post them over the next couple of days.

There was a Wartburg international works rally team in the late 1960s. I remember seeing them in the Quantocks in the RAC Rally, must have been 1968. The engine noise was second only to the Lancia Fulvia HF! The crews wore odd, abbreviated crash helmets that made them look like secret police...
