Back in 1974 our family car was a 2 door white Escort like your parent's one (but with square headlights), however the reg was "UGY 933F" which isn't a million miles off that of the Zodiac. It was a South London reg although my father bought it in Yorkshire. It was THE MOST UNRELIABLE care he ever owned! Each morning he timed his departure to work for when he saw the milkman at the end of the road. As it was certain that the car wouldn't start, he'd have a helper to give it a push. Eventually milky changed his route!Still, I have fond memories of it and would love to show one to my kids.

Riley RMB c1950, I'd suggest. Known at the time as the Riley Two-and-a-half-Litre.
They made a 1.5 litre and a 2.5 litre and it's hard to tell from that picture which that car is. forsure said:

Ah right. But it's very confusing because the internet turns up pictures like this one saying it's an RME - note it's got running boards
and then pictures like this where you'll see a separate front wing and no running boards...
The RME only had the non running-board styling for the last year of production (1955)and then pictures like this where you'll see a separate front wing and no running boards...
By this time the 2.5 (RMF) had been replaced by the Pathfinder.
So it's true that all non running-board cars are RMEs, but not vice-versa.
