Strange that the plate didn't get transferred again if it meant something in the first place.
There's a need for the car to have a valid MOT to transfer the plate off (though I don't know if there was back then), maybe the rust that Lancias had a reputation for crept up and made it uneconomical to deal with. Those four were Yarmouth, Winslow x 2, and Thame. Here's the final four.

There's a scandalous proportion of foreign cars in that picture. The times had changed by then clearly.Talking of Renaults I can see a red 12 on the right 5 back, a gold Fuego almost at the end of the right hand line next to the yellow hatch (Mazda 323??) and of course the blue 18 on the left.

On the right from the front...VDP 1500, Beetle, Granada, Cav, R12, Astra, Mini, 340 Volvo, Maxi, Morris 1000??, Horizon in brown, Renault 9???, Escort, Fuego, Mazda....
When you watch a period drama all the cars on the street are from the year that the film is set in and maybe up to 2 years older. In reality of course, a range of 20 years is not uncommon. The oldest car in every photo is at least that much older than the youngest.
Brilliant pics.
Only just spotted this thread, fantastic photo's. By chance I had scanned photo's of a few of my old cars in a couple of months ago.
My first car purchased just before my 17th birthday. HB Viva with GF, now wife in 1978.
After putting the Viva through a hedge on some ice and then blowing the engine up, I progressed to the Mk 1 Escort 1300XL in '79, later to have a webber carb and widder steel wheels.
By 1980 I could afford my first Capri, cool car for a 19 year old!! A 1.6GL with some chrome after market wheels after a visit to the custom car show at Ali Pali.
Next Capri was a 2.0S, parked up next to my Dad's MK3 Cortina 2.0E about 1982
Away from Capri's for a few months and into a Fiesta 1.3 Ghia also 1982
Started my love affair with bikes in the early 80's, my first "big" bike. Suzuki GS550.
1983 and my favorite Capri, a nearly new 3.0S. Yellow headlights because we had driven it down to the south of France playing Donna Summer on the cassette player the whole way. Sold after less than a year to give us the deposit for our first house.
Jumped a few years now to '94 I think and my first ever new car, Peugeot 405 1.9GLD. Camping in the Mossel Valley with the kids.

I particularly like this one. Those steel spoke wheels seem to suit Fords very well, I remember a local-ish 2dr Mk3 Cortina in the late '80s which had a set of them, it looked fantastic.By 1980 I could afford my first Capri, cool car for a 19 year old!! We had a 1.6L new when I was youngster, sadly no accessory wheels:

Fantastic pictures loving that 3.0S IIRC the wheels on the MK2 were Appliance Chromes dated nowadays but popular in the day
Your memory is far better than mine, the only thing I remember about the wheels is taking a lot of flack from my old man for wasteing my money on rubbish, couldn't see his point at 19!!!.ClaphamGT3 said:
Last one is, I think, Cley Mill in North Norfolk, owned by James Blount's old man and scene of my rather riotous 30th birthday bash!
The slides are labelled Richmond, Richmond, Richmond and Horsey Mill. The last one also says BH37, not sure if that's the postcode or something else.Dapster said:

Sunbeam rather than Horizon? I thought that white car was a 4-door Mk2 Escort but I think you're probably right about it being a Cavalier Mk1.droopsnoot said:

I've got a feeling the first two are as well.

Here's one of three Capris I owned, this one is a 3.0S.
and my Granada 3.0GXL, it was my dads car from new and he fitted the Ghia grill to it.
I bought this new, 1100 Escort, the most boring car going and PX'd it for a new XR3 when they were introduced a few months later.
Fantastic pictures! I particularly like the Granada and the plate really suits it, is the plate still owned by you?and my Granada 3.0GXL, it was my dads car from new and he fitted the Ghia grill to it.
