One of two Citroen Visas we had when I was a kid. Think it was this one I was in when we had a little incident that resulted in a nice scar I have over my eye. I was holding a cassette cover that I was reading when we crashed, and I managed to jam it in my eye hehe

Wonder how many Visas are still about? Haven't seen one in years frown

I've just followed a red visa van on my way home, although I think they made the van for a long time after the car.

My dad had a diesel Visa, a light car with a heavy engine up front, tended to understeer a lot when I drove it, although I did have Montecarlo at the time. As you can see the 3 sons tended to lean towards Italian cars.

Still selling the C15 in 2005, the Visa stopped in the late 80s.

Can I ask, what is a Visa? I thought it was a mistyping of Viva but obviously not. redface

Thanks, that must have passed me by. Were they sold in the UK? Can't say I've ever seen one.

My '67 Mk1 Mini (with grafted on MkIV rear light clusters) 'stalking a Beatle', outside Macca's house in Cavendish Avenue just round the corner from Abbey Road studios...

Going through old family photos... Here's one of my Grandads first car, taken down at West Wittering circa 1956.

My grandmother is in the drivers seat, and dad was there, just two years old.

A few years later, that Hillman California (two tone green) was the first car Dad and my Nan drove.

Dad and Grandad on the same day....

Great photos. Amazing how modern your grandad's car looks compared to the others

It does, doesn't it. Just looked it up, and it's a 'Californian', not a California.

It is strange, the other 3 cars look to be from the 1930s for a guess, not sure what they are.

Was it a very poorly stocked scrapyard the picture was taken at?

Was definitely 1596 ish, Dad wasn't born until April '54.

Grandad had written West Witterings on the back of the photos... these were just two of around 35 from the day.

No, the other three are post-war cars: Ford, Austin and Vauxhall I think.

Until the early to mid-fifties cars were still being produced with separate chassis, wings/running-boards and usually painted black.
The Californian was an early example of the new direction of design and styling - unitary construction, transatlantic styling and bright colours.

I agree. But the Mini above looks far more modern and was introduced only 3 years later in 1959. Seeing these pics together really emphasises how "new" the Mini was then.
Great pics, thx for posting them.

Yes and while the actual cars in the photo may be post-war, most products of the 1940s were pre-war designs with minor changes if any.
By 1954, when that Hillman was current, we were still using pre-war cars as they were cheap and available.
