How about a 'period' classics pictures thread
Discussion
One of two Citroen Visas we had when I was a kid. Think it was this one I was in when we had a little incident that resulted in a nice scar I have over my eye. I was holding a cassette cover that I was reading when we crashed, and I managed to jam it in my eye
Wonder how many Visas are still about? Haven't seen one in years
Going through old family photos... Here's one of my Grandads first car, taken down at West Wittering circa 1956.
My grandmother is in the drivers seat, and dad was there, just two years old.
A few years later, that Hillman California (two tone green) was the first car Dad and my Nan drove.
Dad and Grandad on the same day....

Great photos. Amazing how modern your grandad's car looks compared to the othersMy grandmother is in the drivers seat, and dad was there, just two years old.

Was it a very poorly stocked scrapyard the picture was taken at?

Grandad had written West Witterings on the back of the photos... these were just two of around 35 from the day.

Until the early to mid-fifties cars were still being produced with separate chassis, wings/running-boards and usually painted black.
The Californian was an early example of the new direction of design and styling - unitary construction, transatlantic styling and bright colours.

I agree. But the Mini above looks far more modern and was introduced only 3 years later in 1959. Seeing these pics together really emphasises how "new" the Mini was then.Great pics, thx for posting them.

No, the other three are post-war cars: Ford, Austin and Vauxhall I think.
Yes and while the actual cars in the photo may be post-war, most products of the 1940s were pre-war designs with minor changes if any. By 1954, when that Hillman was current, we were still using pre-war cars as they were cheap and available.
