How about a 'period' classics pictures thread
Discussion
Perhaps a small departure from the main theme of this thread, but I thought these would be of interest nonetheless...
The current Ms WRXSEi gave me a selection of old magazine advert cuttings for Christmas, which will shortly be framed and put up in the house, and I thought they might be of interest to some here! There are also one or two non-car-related 'B-sides' which I found rather charming as well

I arrived in Stamford in '86 and still live here, when the BL dealer closed the site became a hand car wash for many years and as you say is now being redeveloped as housing.
The Ford dealer, TC Harrison, on Wharf Road is still there although on the opposite side of the road. They sold off the original site for housing development and built a brand new showroom across the road about 10 years ago.
Do I remember rightly there being an AC Williams Renault dealership where what is now Saxon court (near pizza express) or have I imagined it?The Ford dealer, TC Harrison, on Wharf Road is still there although on the opposite side of the road. I remember gazing longingly at a blue Fuego in AC Williams. Upstairs I will have some Renault brochures of the era with their stamp on the back: I think Willians was owned by a man called Frank Sawyer. I passed through maybe a couple of years ago and filled up at what was once Forsythe and Ferrier the old Vauxhall and Colt (as it was then) dealer at the end of Scotgate. I think the showrooms gone. Hind marsh the Peugeot-Talbot dealer was still there I think.
I just looked online. That's gone too.

The old hindmarch site now sells carpets. I cannot remember the Vauxhall garage ever being a petrol station?
The son of forsythe and ferrier runs Boston Mercedes now iirc
I wish I'd had a camera back when I was ten. There were some cracking cars about then. Damen the grit and veg man at the top of Arecibo Road had a really cool red 1960s Merc and there was a green - new at the time - Caddilac that parked at the bottom of Irinmonger Street on evenings l. Outside Stead and Simpson. The son of forsythe and ferrier runs Boston Mercedes now iirc
I also remember an ultra rare RHD Matra Rancho 'Decoverable' (Sp?) that parked on rough ground at the bottom of Conduit RD along with a newish souled up 7 series BMW. On an S plate I think. It wasn't an Alpina something else

You colour coded your grille. Nice period mod. Love the colour too.lol, I did, colour code the grille, modifying a car back then was far easier than today's world, it usually involved half an hour in a shed rather than 2 hours at a specialist...

I'm not sure that this is strictly speaking "in period" as it was taken in 1982 when the Daytona was 10 years old.
Taken at the FOC meet in the grounds of Birtsmorton Court in Worcestershire. Despite how I am standing in the photo, I am 100% heterosexual !!
Funny thing is, I saw a Daytona a couple of years ago and thought that it seemed familiar but wasn't quite sure why. It was this car - but it had been resprayed red!
