Who can identify the cars?

Well the car by your mum is an MGTD but to make the blurred one would require a real anorak. She is standing on the Embankment by Cleopatra's Needle with Hungerford Bridge in the background. And that's extent of my contribution wink

That's not a TD. Looks more like a tourer than a sports, so my guess would be more like a VA.

Another one from my mother's photos.

Not sure who is is/was (but he's not my father!) however he did own a nice Riley!

It's a Riley 9 Gamecock [a model you have to be careful whom you announce to!].. They were only made in 1932.

In the middle distance it looks like a Vauxhall Cresta, and parked at the side of the road I think it could be a Hillman Minx MkVII.

I agree with the MG VA. It's too small to be a WA, which was IMHO one of the most handsome cars of the period.

I'd be even more impressed. If you could tell me who the chap is - my mother denies ever knowing him. Fortunately I look nothing like him so have no fear of a Justin Welby moment!

I didn't think to check at the time, but KF9265 still exists!

DVLA says it's not taxed or MOT'd, but...

KF9265 Vehicle details

Vehicle make: RILEY

Great vintage shot of what looks like the old Casino strip down Fremont Street, circa 1959/60 by the cool gold coloured '59 Chevy wagon on the far right hand side, and nothing obviously later than that in the photo. Is that a Standard Vanguard on the left in front of the white '58 Chevy..?!

The lyrics to Surfin Safari by the Beach Boys came to mind seeing this (OK so I know it's not a Woody) but.... biggrin

Early in the morning we'll be startin' out
Some honeys will be coming along
We're loading up our Woody
With our boards inside
And headin' out singing our song... etc.

It is not a definite - that search used to show the date of liability which indicated the last time there was activity.

The only thing for certain is that it shows that someone put the number onto the DVLA system when it was computerised.....and a huge number of old logbooks were V5'd at that time.

A car I know was crushed years ago shows the exact same status.

That's interesting. It seems to have a rather puny engine though.

And that's a real pisser because the cardboard logbooks were destroyed. I am stuggling to find history relating to my car but apart from one buff logbook showing history from about '58 to '72 there's nothing. I wrote to DVLA but the more recent logbooks have been disposed of. frown

The only thing for certain is that the DVLA has a lot of data. Much of it was input fairly randomly, transposed from handwritten entries many decades ago. And a lot of the handwritten data wasn't accurate...

Riley 9 twin-cam, as used in the Riley Brooklands. A very successful small race engine in its day (late 1920s / earyl 1930s).
