How about a 'period' classics pictures thread

That thing was built on a Fiat Topolino, called "Quad Al" it had four Allison V12 engines and weighed 9000 lbs and took 8 people to put on the trailer! Sold for $4000 in 1965. Apparently in the Guinness Book of World Records [1974 - 89] as the most powerful piston engined car built.

Just found a post on the HAMB from last year where it was on display.I need to correct my original post as I suspected that it had two of the rare V-3420 Allison W-engines as it was difficult to see whether they were or as it turns out 4 x normal V-1710 V12's.

My Dad as a teenager sometime in the 60s.
Dad again on his pride and joy. Not sure what the bike is though.
Dad fixing his Triumph sometime in the mid 70s.
Dad riding said Triumph sometime in the mid 70s. Picture taken somewhere in deepest darkest Derbyshire.
I spoke to Dad about the B&W photos and he says it was a 3TA.
Good spot, there, Hidetheelephants.
He reckons the second bike was possibley a 5TA but he is not sure as he had both a 3TA and a 5TA in the same colour at the same time.
For extra points, can anyone identify the estate car lurking in the background in the first photo? I reckon it's a Cortina Mk1.

Just four V-1710s? Meh... I need to correct my original post as I suspected that it had two of the rare V-3420 Allison W-engines as it was difficult to see whether they were or as it turns out 4 x normal V-1710 V12's.

I think the bike in the b&w shots is not the same as the colour ones, headlight nacelle is slightly different between the two, so your Dad's memory is spot on for the early one being a 3TA and the blue one being a 5TA.aeropilot said:

Definitely different bikes. There is about 10 years between the colour and the monochrome photos.Looks like an early Honda Cub in the background of the picture showing my mums bike. Pretty glad we no longer have to show a numberplate over the front mudguard. God help any pedestrian if you hit them!
Not sure what the red moped is behind my dad, other than it obviously being a Honda. Any Ideas?
Just found the accompanying shot... looks repairable, I wonder if the Miura is still around...
Back in the '70s my Nan lived in a ninth floor flat overlooking the fire station in Rugby, from there I had a great view of the compound round the back where there would be dozens of old Matadors, Fodens etc, several of which had been converted to tow trucks and they were all painted bright colours with hand painted lining on all of the panels.

Funnily enough, It was in Rugby where I remember seeing a Matador in regular use. If memory serves, it was bright red and white and used to live in a place somewhere down the back of Dunchurch Road. I remember seeing it when I was a kid going to see my Grandparents.Back in the '70s my Nan lived in a ninth floor flat overlooking the fire station in Rugby, from there I had a great view of the compound round the back where there would be dozens of old Matadors, Fodens etc, several of which had been converted to tow trucks and they were all painted bright colours with hand painted lining on all of the panels.
