My mum gave me a few bits and bobs last time I was down to see her, including my Great Aunt Queenie's photo album. I'd never seen it before and it's too late to ask my dad about it.

The car is an incidental inclusion as the party would have travelled by train. My grandparents were unbelievably hard up all their married life except for one period around the time this picture was taken which I estimate to be 1930 or 1931 depending on whether my dad is five or six. At that time my grandfather ran a workshop rebuilding accumulators, car batteries as you and I would call them, and he ran a Chrysler Streamline. Little guy, huge American car, what can I say? They would still have gone by train, I reckon it was Ventnor on the Isle of Wight.

My, they were having a good time. That's my dad, his parents and Great Grandma Cutler. She was the only great grandparent of mine I remember. Queenie, my grandfather's sister, took the picture.

Sorry, Chrysler Airflow not Streamline. As they were made from 1934 onwards, he couldn't have owned it when the pictures above were taken.

Priceless old pics. BL also liked to use girls in their promo pics. This one always amuses me, it was described as "Woman inspects the engine on one of the 1st mini cars":

Lean in a bit love. Yes that's it, now look depressed. No, more depressed than that. Can you do a bit more depressed? Imagine you've run over the family Labrador. Got it, now hold that look!

Do you have a larger version of the image with the Frogeye on the right. I'd love to see if the reg number is visible

Indeed, I thought exactly the same. Funny how run down it all looks.

Around Christmas 1970 my Nan took me on (what seemed like) a very long walk from Hammersmith to Shepards Bush to visit my Great Gran, on arrival at the Bush the whole street looked like the location of Steptoe's yard, all grubby terraces, deserted bomb sites and corrugated 'fencing' everywhere, with the odd tatty looking car parked up, a timeless scene that has been imprinted on my mind ever since. It might sound strange having bomb sites a quarter of a century after the end of the war, but many parts of London were still like this at the time.

I know, I grew up there in the '60s, we used to play in bomb sites.
