How about a 'period' classics pictures thread
Discussion
Great pics there Mike - the Capri with the 'VHK...' plate is one of the Ford press fleet, they supplied several cars from the same pool for use in the last series of The Sweeney and then The Professionals. Some of the same 'VHK' cars were also used in Euston Films six-parter series 'Out' in late '77.
It was 1978, and was the Shellsport Escort 1600 Sport one make series, replacing Mexicos in 1975. I had one of these cars 30 years ago, SOO750R. They were prepped by Boreham including removing the undersea and sound deadening - at 10 years old it was utterly rotten.
It was resurrected as a rally car later and is in Northern Ireland I believe.

Have no idea why I decided to take this picture of the centre of Tenterden in Spring 1974, but it now shows a lost world. I guess that is a genuine Fiat 125 on the right. Apart from that and the Peugeot 204 estate on the left, a Fiat 127 mainly hidden behind it and the very 70s yellow Volvo 144/145 estate everything else appears to be British made - a different world indeed. I would guess that everything in the picture has now gone to the great car park in the sky.
I posed this right at the beginning of the thread, but here's the same place about 10 years earlier with my great grandparents standing next to their PA Cresta along with my great uncle.Edited by Car_Nut on Wednesday 7th December 00:44

I remember one coming round our road in West London in the mid 80's, every Wednesday I think. Probably stopped about 86-7 I reckon. Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
