Rod Stewart's gaff in the '70s, the white Miura on the right 'JLL 831K' is his, looks like Britt Ekland posing for posterity too...

It was featured in Car mag at the time too...

(Since then it's been resprayed dark blue and passed through Amari's hands, I think it was sold for about £900k fairly recently)

I absolutely fell in love with sidecar racing when I was a kid. Stuff like this pic is just epic innit: balls!

1974, crazy Galletti & Rizzi on a Laverda 750 SFC powered sidecar - (pic Gianni Sperotto FB)?
Never see much sidecar racing on TV which is a pity especially as you could put Cameras all over the bike now.
It has to be said they are totally utterly bonkers but I bet it must be the biggest rush ever.
The well-known protective qualities of white cotton shirts open to the navel! eek Scary and homoerotic.hehe

Imagine the nanny state agreeing to this street setup today, H&S would have a fit!!

Steam locomotive makes its way down 5th Street in Lafayette, Indiana, very late 1930's or early 1940's.

Reminds me of this (Weymouth Tramway):

There was a tramway like that through Gt. Yarmouth between South Quay and the main railway station; presumably most people avoided being killed to death. Many US towns had/have a rail line down Main Street, it's very common in the old Pennsylvania or Virginia coal towns as the valleys are so narrow the lines could not be built anywhere other than through the middle of town.

In the early 70's stopping at a pub on way back from Heathrow with my M & D we saw this car parked outside, I thought it was yellow but in retrospect it was dark and the lighting was an amber colure I think!
Rod and Ronnie were inside with a couple of mates, you could not miss there hair wink

One of the reasons this thread is one of the best anywhere IMHO is pics like this. Thanks.

Mark A S - great story that, I can just imagine Rod and Ron yacking over a pint. Back in the 'early '80s I remember my uncle telling me he saw it parked up in a well to do road in Kensington about ten years previously (he was installing a snakeskin lined lift in some Arab's house at the time), he remembers it still being white then.

Loose Cannon - thanks, I only found the photo online recently but I recall seeing it in one of the tabloids as a kid, or one very similar to it, maybe taken from a different angle. Rod was always in the papers back then!

Seem to remember the Viva had a special crumple zone called rust.

Just checked and the last one went down in 1999. I doubt there is enough rail to ferry traffic to justify it today. It is probably quite safe really, nobody is going to mess with a full size train weaving through town, but it would probably bring a lot of it to a standstill while it made its way through town at walking pace. I do wonder how often a car was parked completely in the way, there is a dark blue saloon car in that pic that looks quite close!

Anyway, here is a picture of it making its way down the quayside while Concorde flies overhead, in a picture postcard image from the early 90s, including an XR3i to make it vaguely relevant to this thread.

Surprising how few people in that train-Concorde-XR3i picture seem to be looking up at Concorde; which must've been making quite a racket above them.

Probably just thought the noise was a military fast jet flying low overhead, which back in those days would have been happening on a daily basis in that part of the world.

Surely still more interesting than a train biggrin

Wonder whether there was a combined Fiat/Lamborghini dealer in London in the early 70s as my Aunt had a Fiat 128 Estate registered JLL 844K

A couple more Weymouth pictures, not mine I would add!

It wouldn't surprise me if it were so. There were (still are I think) other Lambos around with 'JLL...' prefixes including another Miura and an Espada that I know of.

I'm pretty sure I've posted a picture of this before, it's a picture of my Dad and late Uncle with a project they'd created to promote their business in the early 80's

I'm inclined to agree with those of you that think the artwork is not in the best taste or the actual vehicle itself, however the quality of their custom builds got them noticed in a positive way and they went onto build a decent business which they sold around 10 years ago offering them a decent retirement.

I was thinking Renault of some sort, I'm never good with their numbers!

Nice. We had a maroon Beta (or should I say ß?) when I was small. Replaced when dad got a company Cortina estate. Mum says she was a bit sniffy about getting a Ford, but it was a great car apparently. I just remember green cord seats.

I've sold off a few of my Dinky toys on Ebay recently, and I always like to chuck a bit of history into the listing and a photo of the real life vehicle. So here's a 1960's Scammell in Pickfords markings. I know it's not a classic car as such, but it's one of my favourite classic vehicles.

Here's the model I sold.

And here's a video of one of the old girls in action.
