Nice pics again. Merry Christmas everyone.
As a quiet interlude some unseen old Birmingham pictures:
I like the convertible car on the right. Anyone know what it is? Looks French to me. The picture is captioned Witton Road, Aston 1939.
Strange looking car on the left with the wide arches. Again what is it, anyone? I don't know. Captioned Erdington High Street. Probably mid 1950's.
This next pair of pics are said to be BSA road testers 1950's:
A great shot dated 1926 of Roberts & Co Garage, Yardley Road:
This pic interested me. 1960 Sandy Lane Bordesley. Look at the chap painting the Keep Left sign. I wondered if he was employed by the council:
Although very serious at the time, a shot of The Auxiliary Fire Station, Geraldine Road, Hay Mills. I bet this 1939 set up was a hoot to drive:
A lovely pic of Fishers & Ludlow [Later part of Pressed Steel Fisher then BL] Castle Bromwich 1964. A cool Honda at the end.:
And last but not least; those of us of a certain age will remember the Rag & Bone man, a common sight as late as the early 1960's:
A balloon? Goldfish in a plastic bag? A cheap Hong Kong toy?
Fantastic pictures, rag N bone (totters) men was still using horse drawn carts in the London suburbs right into the mid to late 70's where I once lived As a quiet interlude some unseen old Birmingham pictures:

The strange-looking woodie could well be a Humber Snipe WW2 staff car which has been rebodied.
Probably original body, although maybe modified a little looking at the photo, as there was a 'woodie' version called the Snipe Utility used during the war.A mate of mine bought an very rough, ex-RAF one to restore back in the late 90's.

I had one of them, around 90-91 as a daily driverMy father=in=law has recently shared some 'old' prints he had taken back in the day.... though there might be some interest for them on here...
We suspect it is about 1978 but he claims 1982 and at Brands Hatch (not my specialist field...). I have a few more which I will share later....

Great pics slightly off topic but disappeared didnt Alan Pond have service stations back in the 70's/80's?
There was a dealership in Crewe called "Alan Pond" at some point, probably late 70s or early 80s. I can't remember what manufacturer, perhaps Renault. Building is now a carpet shop.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
