Hi guys, having just got a lovely '72 Scimitar GTE, which the previous owners had spent a fortune on retrimming the interior, i am thinking of a decent Stereo head unit. But I want one that will not look too out of place in the black vynyl dash. i-pod connection important, any ideas for a Retro-syle head unit??

Becker Mexico 7948 is perfect, but not cheap... Think around 800 notes.

Or you could pick up one of these 70's Radiomobiles on ebay for about £25 and have it adapted with modern internals/amplification to receive FM and play iPods for about £350.

Why not just rewire the positive and negative terminals? A simple job for any decent auto electrician / ICE specialist.

The guys at WTCR who do all the Ferrari's etc from Maranello and a whole host of classics such as Aston Martin, Porsche, Jags etc will do the job for you and fit a decent Becker.

Fine idea, but insulating the unit from the chassis and so on ain't easy. If I don't it'll short out straight away. If it was just reversing the polarity of the unit no problem but one has to go further than that.

That's right, the one i have in theAston has a polarity inverter (?) which is fully isolated from the casing of the radio which means that everything else remains positive earth, like the aerial etc. else you will blow it immediatly you plug the aerial into the back of the radio biglaugh

Pioneer DEH-P77MP - they're about 5 years old now but come up on Ebay from time to time.

I have found one in Halfrauds that looks like a good ole' Harry Big Knob, but has on-screen i-pod control. About £180, I cannot find it online but it was in store. As much as I'd love a Becker it would be more than i paid for the car!

Its a Kenwood KDC W7044U. Looks old-school enough for me when turned off, and has on-screen i-pod control for £189. Would prefer the Becker Mexico though!

Ooh lovely, never seen the pioneer, but now I want one.
But much as I would like find a DEH-P77MP I might be too impatient and opt for one of these:
