hehehe my mum told me that your car ain't a proper '70's custom car until it's got all the things this one has got. She was a regular at a place called "Sunset Boulevard" in Derbyshire in the late 1970's The Streets of Sanfrancisco - MkIII Cortina by NickGrant.co.uk, on Flickr

Think she must have had a Mk.1 Capri 3litre at the time.
Hi all just seen this post and thought I'd add some information to the previous topic
The 1972 mk 3. Cortina is mine and I can confirm some info on it
The car was purchased by my late uncle in 1978 and was customised from then
It's been pretty much this was since
The theme came simply from the his love of the show and as a previous guy said all of them had a name back the
All the work was carried out by him and my dad well mainly my dad being the mechanic
It's now been placed on my careful hands and I now take her out when I can and keep her ticking along as needed

......a bit of a Max Wall lookalike!!....
- Glad you said that and not me...but you were right! I hope he's alive in kicking either way I'll raise my glass to you Jimmy Yeh - I guess we must be about the same age I'll be fifty two in October...scary!!!! As to the Grand Hotel, my girlfriends sister got married there and she had a flat opposite- great times
Did you ever have one of those stupid CB radio's .. we all used to drive along the seafront saying "yeh ten four buddy, just seen you driving past-you going to the lighthouse?- see you you there" (2 miles away!!!!) we thought we were soooooo....cooool
Mind you there were some pretty neat cars around, apart from the two white cortina's (1600E and Mk1 ) Sneek?/Snoops? (their dad had a small garage in Whitley Bay) there was also a lad from Shiremoor (gyspy?)who traded in cars - anyway one evening he brought the most stunning Buick Riveria to cruise around Whitley Bay - now that was seriously cool!
Final one 'fore I go for dinner - do you ever remember a pale blue Viva SL with Sunbeam Tiger slotted in - he was called Paul lived in Shields as well... ........

Guess you were part of the Whitely Cruisers?
I'm 52 and was morre into rallying then but with an interest in Customs
Ones I remember were a Cortina 3 with a V6 or8
Friend at the Sov had a green Minor with Wolfies,(took it for an MoT to the garage under the Tyne Bridge and got a scaffold pole through the roof)
Two mates with a garage ran E Types
Cortina & Corsair Gts
Was it Chris Dawson with the F plate purple Anglia with big arches etc
Oh and just remembered a lad with a C Cab built on a Gilbern(?) chassis. Just my favourite of all time. Remember Drag racing at Felton Airodrome........

The Cortinas will have been the Sneap's. They had Wheels and Custom in New York and now have a body repair business on the Algernon Industrial Estate. I remember the Mk3 'tina done up in Mad Max Pursuit colours as well as the Starsky and Hutch Mk 1 Escort with the improbably high rear suspension!
Have a butcher's at what's on Ebay at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-venom-capri-hotrod-...
It's as ugly as sin and I want it.

Just in case anyone is interested We still own the Wolfrace Sonic built by Nick Butler and was sold by Wolfrace Wheels when they had financial problems. It has two engines both Rovers, six wheels, a blapunkt stereo with the speakers built into the headrests, two seats with cockpits that raise up on motor driven drives. It was one of those purchases for me that was a lesson of don't do business with friends. At present we are looking for somewhere to store the vehicle safely while we sort out on selling it. If anyone out there wants to know more about the car feel free to ask me.
Glad I found this thread.
I own a reasonably large amount of Custom Car magazines from the 70's (anyone remember Super CC & Cecilia?) and spent my teenage youth reading these intently.
I was fascinated by Nick Butler's 'Revenge' and was stunned to see it at the Wheels Day at Dunsfold recently. Never knew it still existed. I was shocked. I took one shaky picture of it.
I still have the magazines showing its first feature and the build. Nick Butler became a teenage hero, I suppose.
Others? Moulin Rouge springs to mind. And plenty of CC centrefolds....

I was also taken aback to see Revenge at Wheelsday, standing taking pictures of a car I hadn't
seen for 30+ [?] years,I turn around to speak to an old bloke who seemed to know his stuff.
It was Nick Butler.
I had no idea what he looked like but from what he was saying it was definitely him.
Spoke to him for a few minutes....
