MK1 ESCORT SPORT
Discussion
I went with my Dad to the Ford dealer on Mannigham Lane Bradford in 1974, he was trading in the Mk1 Yellow Escort 1100 OKU 66L that I learned to drive on, the salesman was trying to sell him the Orange Mk1 1300 Sport that was in the showroom and a bit past its sell by date as the Mk2 had come out by then.
Unfortunately he wanted a Mk2, so we had a Beige (yuk) 1100 JUM 267N - I guess with that reg he didn't buy it from the Bradford dealer, but went to Leeds instead, maybe Tates, off Eastgate?
The Mk1s he had were Pale Green *** 333H, Tawny SAK 444J ,Yellow OKU 66L and the Mk2s Beige, White, Red, Lime Green, maybe another red one, I'd left home by then so my memory is more vague. After that there was a series of Mk1 and Mk2 Metros!

Thanks for this and your earlier pics, fantastic. I love the Mk1 cars with the 4 Cibies. Our car was definitely red as opposed to orange, I remember it had the steel wheels and chrome hubcaps. I put Revolution alloys on when it was passed down to me. The quarter bumpers, black grill and flared front arches were great sporty touches.

I had an electric blue mk1 sport MKX509L, it was bought new by my uncle in 72 and had the Rev counter incorporated in the facia, one of the reasons he wanted the sport was the seperate Rev counter, when he picked it up it had been changed, I got it for my 18th birthday in 1981 and finally had to scrap it in about 1997, I’ve still got the facia pack, wish I still had the car.

Did you say that you still had the dash top? I am after an original one and happy to pay the not insignificant market value.

Not a bad birthday at all that one!Funnily enough I dug it out of my garage a week ago when my Uncle came to visit, I realised then that although it was just the facia it meant as much to him as it does to me, I’m going to frame it and use the original bulb holes to light it up, I’ve had it for 40 years I couldn’t part with it, sorry.
Good to see one of these againI had a 1974 MK1 Sport in orange in 1986. Paid £225 and bought and had fitted a new clutch for £50.
I remember the back panel being black , am i remembering that wrongly ?
MOT tester said it was the most solid MK1 he'd seen, unfortunately destroyed it in a head on crash.

Not at all. All Sports had the black rear panel and early ones (J/K plate) didn't have the stainless trim around the tail. Those had the rev counter pod and big chrome hubcaps.
That’s exactly right, my uncle’s Sport, passed down to me, was K reg. The pod mounted rev counter was a nice touch.Lovely car, always wanted a Mk1 but missed the boat although an aunt had an 1100 m plater that sadly dropped to pieces due to rust.
I love seeing these older vehicles on the street, they bring back a big dose of nostalgia for me for a time long since gone.
Saw an Mg Maestro efi the other day in red, looked a minter, brings back memories.
