Was down in Essex seeing a guy about some Mustangs today and he said that down the road from his house, sitting on someone's drive, next to a 10yo Ford Mondeo would be an Aston Martin DB3 for restoration ...

Pull the other one I said.

But sure enough ... car has been sitting there for 13 years apparently and the guy won't sell. Took it in payment for a job years ago or something.

Couldn't find the thread about the wreck and rusty classics, sorry.

I think i know of the chap you speak of about the Mustangs. Does he live almost opposite a Jewish cemetery?

It's such a shame to see the Aston being left to disappear into thin air like that. Someone really needs to save it !

How would you know the guy I was seeing? There are quite a few in Essex! (And no he doesnt)

Agree that someone should save it (if possible) - I think it is worse than it looks.

yes, but with the values of the DB 2/4 MkIII (sorry to be pedantic, but...) where they are, you'll make your money back. And that numberplate will be worth something.

But for me its not about value. It would be about seeing that car back on the road

What a superb specimen of British automobile history.
Im positive the person would sell, everyone has their price.
Maybe a few rupees on the hip would persuade the gentleman to lift his bonnet?

id love to do the bare minimum to that to get an mot on it, the just run around it and leave it parked on the street etc.

its perfect, flat paint, rusty bumpers, etc etc.

sadly i guess it would cost tens of thousands to get it road worthy and will (should it ever get done) get a shiney two pack paint job and new chrome......

Apologies for my "rant" - I've just given the Aston forum boys a mouthfull- I don't mean offence to them but hopefully someone will step in an save this car.

Rant below:

A Feltham Aston, rotting away and no response from the Aston forum :-(. Vlp666 - my old man sold his battered car in the early 80's for 500 quid, dark blue, chipped paint but lovely nonetheless- sadly not on the DVLA register now- he didn't have the cash to save it... gutted. Response from this forum is absent... red car is a massive project and most have not got time or funds to deal with this but.. interest from this forum is silent. :-(((

So sad.... warranties, electric seats not moving perfectly, whats the depreciation on my DB9? Thoroughly depressing. This car was one of only 500 odd made... hand built, imperfect but named in Ian Fleming's late 50's Bond book. I can't fix it but some of you may know someone- at least have an opinion...

Obviously a massive project but "Power- Soul- Ignition'?" or whatever when you put your keys in... save it!!!

Deeply depressing response from the Aston forum. Come on , call up some footballers, club in and save something important!

Too poor and too far away to help... but....I'll chip in if you do...X558

It would be better to post it to the forum on the AMOC site unless that has changed too since I was studying there 5 years ago. I guess the profile of Aston owners has changed massively over that period though. I'd image that Aston have sold more cars in the last 5 years than in the entire rest of their history.

Not quite sure who or what you are ranting at or why? confused Anyway, I can assure you the car has been discussed on the AMOC forum and a very well known Independent specialist has even approached the guy but the owner does not want to sell. So that's that.

Perhaps you know a few footballers who could be called?

Your profile doesn't exactly shout of someone who cares too much for saving British motoring heritage...

Yes, it's sad to see a car like this neglected. But if you could buy a good example of the car concerned for the same or less than this would take to re-commission...would you?

Apologies all - I didn't mean to come out as a "Troll" - drunken post, sorry.

Anyway, I knew a rough one of these as a kid and it was petulant response, based on enthusiasm for the marque and car. Hopefully the current owner will at least put it under cover at some time in the future and possibly it may be restored - sure it will cost a fortune but maybe...

Again- regrets for my behaviour.... I still love Astons, and all old British motors.

Taken as payment for a job. Is almost as if he is leaving it to rot out of spite to the previous owner. Tosser.

If he's not interested in it, why the hell not sell to someone who is?

I know the location (obviously) and so does another esteemed forum member with a similar car but the car is known in AMOC circles and an attempt has been made previously to purchase it - even by a respected AM restoration specialist - all to no avail.

For some reason (and I am sure he thinks it's a good 'un) the owner won't sell it! frown
