Bugger - looks like the Kitten and I will be missing the bulk of next season as well, as I get yet another summer holiday in Afghanistan from early May to September... Might make the test day if I can get the engine out/rebuilt, and simultaneously move house...

I saw a note of Facebook the other day saying that some panels from Mick Hill's Beetle have recently been stolen.

And, Gerry Marshalls other racing Firenza 'Old Nail' made an appearance this year at the Donington Historic, fuel problems forced early retirement but its new owner hope to have it out again soon.

Sad to here about Mick Hill , he certainly built some interesting cars .
The haze of time and a very dodgy memory recalls a jag engined Anglia , the first capri , a second capri then the Beetle ,
Of the same era was big Gerry in Big Bertha , then Baby B , Ian Richardson with the can am car then a Corviar with a thumping V8 , Doc Shepherd with a V8 engined Sunbeam Rapier , Dave Brodie with RUN BABY RUN , Tony Hazlewood with the Daf , I also remember an escort with a DFV ? In it .
Who had the pink escort that destroyed itself at the harpin at Siverstone on a windy day ?
Many famous names in Group one and Group two classes .Also celebrity escort races which were usually total mayhem.
The days when race programmes were stuffed full of stickers and promo girls gave out free cigarettes (full packets to us marshalls) .
A Britax rally jacket was the coolest thing in the paddock .

Today motorsport is very different.

I remember David Leslie taking me out on a public road and I asked him to slow down (and he did!). Today's drivers are very different.

I hope we remember the greats for a long time and that YouTube keeps their memories alive with the young people
