Fascinating thread, speaking as a potentially interested C type customer. Shame Photobucket have buggered up the internet.

What engine are Suffolk putting in it?

I imagine that they'll put any of the Jaguar XK engines in. The 3.4, 3.8 and 4.2 are all approximately the same block. For authenticity you should go for a 3.4, but pop a 4.2 in there and you'll get loads more torque and it's easy to get plenty of poke.

Reg's Suffolk C-Type has a 3.4

Smashing thread this! Tony, the XKSS looks gorgeous, I've gone back for another look - several times!! It would be my choice had I the pocket, with a 3.8 engine, smoother and with the extra waterway between 3 and 4, and an all synchro box. Have done numerous long runs in both long nose D Types with tail exhaust, and XKSS with side exhaust. The tinnitus I have today started after taking an XKSS to an expo in Mulhouse, and back so rather proves your point, despite wearing ear defenders all the way. The C Types are lovely too, perhaps even prettier than an XKSS........ Whilst on Mulhouse I should mention the Schlumpf Collection and urge anyone who has not visited to add it to their bucket list immediately, it is extraordinary!!

Still loving this thing. A Suffolk C Type replica. I was very fortunate to have a classic racing mechanic, who has worked with and driven genuine C types, spend some time getting the set up as close to an original as possible.

Collecting my Suffolk C type Chassis in a few weeks after it's powdercoated ...

In terms of authenticity , there is almost nothing like the Suffolk C type for its value . It really is almost indistinguishable from the real thing , even down to the chassis . Believe me , I've looked long and detailed to all other offerings and most of them are miles out in regard to dimensions etc.

Looking forward realising my childhood dream ...

Harald, which engine are you sourcing for the car? The gearbox they supply is a gem, and the whole package is very well thought out.

And a ruddy short prop shaft it seems smile Getting hard to find the O/D boxes these days. I've seen them fitted to the S3 E-type with a 2.88 diff. On a trip across France he got better mpg than my 3.8 E-type! Engine turning at 1,500 rpm at 60 mph helps!

Idd. hard to find .
Bought mine some years ago when the idea of a build was still maturing in my head ... :-)
Getrag is maybe slicker to operate but requires changes to the tunnel and of course doesn't give the original overdrive feeling of old .
Must say the Suffolk demonstrator is quite an experience ;-)

mine is a 3.4 S engine from an XK140SE, twin SU's and same gearbox. It was Roger Williams' demo until he sold it to me.
I have changed the camber materially, so it now turns in very keenly, and I have the ignition well advanced to replicate the on/off nature of a track car. It means you have to accelerate, or come right off the pedal, because constant speed induces some engine stutter.

A C Type Peter Bruin replica has been listed for sale here in New Zealand. I’m not looking to buy it but thought I’d share for your interest and comments.

This vehicle is an immaculate Peter Bruin Replica (no 4) of the iconic Jaguar C Type of which Jaguar only produced 57 actual cars.
These Bruin replicas are classics in their own right. This car has been built to full C-Type specification utilising torsion bar suspension and full MK7 M(approx. 1954) running gear.
Motor has been fully blueprinted and gearbox and differential have been overhauled.
Dash Board gauges are authentic Jaguar. Vehicle looks, sounds and drives superbly.
Vehicle located at Omaka Classic Car Museum Blenheim

Well, a quick glance reveals wrong headlights, radial tyres and the screen looks wrong, and what the rest of the car would reveal I have no idea. But unless I saw better photos I am unable to comment. It certainly looks to be a nice replica, but these throwaway comments that it is atrue replica I always take with a pinch of salt. The question is always "can it have FIA papers"? If so, it is a true replica. I know, I built one.

The battery is right under the exhaust manifold, but I am not sure if that is a chassis or roll cage. Please spare me the need to comment further.

Hi All,

I'm in the process of researching C-Type replicas and loved reading this thread. Thanks to all for the contributions and great information. I may have missed it, but was wondering if you all knew that Suffolk is now offering all aluminum bodies? Has anyone seen/driven one of these cars yet? I'm in the states, so a visit to their workshop is not practical for me at this point, but I am definitely leaning toward their self-build option with the aluminum body. I spoke with Fraser Williams who told me that they have not shipped an aluminum body to date, but that it could be arranged. I have yet to hear back from him on the up-charge for the aluminum above and beyond the plastic body, but I'm committed to going with the original materials where ever and when ever possible. I would think that with Suffolk's commitment to originality in their chassis and body dimensions and mechanicals, their aluminum car would be a clear choice for those of us who prefer originality to outright performance and modern drive-ability. I have read great things about the Lynx car as well, but it may be a little too far out of my price range.

Spooky. Saw this car or one just like it being trailered somewhere a couple of days ago. Pic is from an advert but the car is now sold. Garage was in Suffolk which isn't a million miles away. Can't post a pic but search C-Type reg 600 DTP.
