looks real. most replicas would avoid drum brakes!
value? depending on provenance, i would guess £2.5m / £4m ?

There aren't many blue C-Types and the reg doesn't check out with any that I can see.
You can look on http://www.coventryracers.com

Depending on what the race meeting was, it could conceivably have been an FIA-ticketed copy, hence the need for drum brakes to race in period specification.

That looks like coil over shock suspension to me, not torsion bar. Could be wrong though.

It's a while since I studied it, but here is the chassis and bulkhead of a "real" C-type and it looks completely different. This was mine in build in 2008

Okay thanks guys - not real then I guess.

Pity, but it still looked very nice, although I thought it was a bit unusual to see one in light metallic blue.

XKC016 was blue, but not metallic
XKC041, 42 & 46 were metallic blue. I guess these were all owned by Ecurie Ecosse.

Glad to find this topic. I was inches away from commissioning a local shop to layout my chassis when I thought I better go back to all the research from my last failed start.

Difference is now I have much of the donor stuff on hand that I have collected over the years.

Some of you know my project ( racewaygarage.com) and I would like to purchase a bare chassis.

Suffolk seems reasonable and is already setup for E type front and MKII rear, both which I have on hand.

If you were just buying a chassis, who would you buy from?

I have just finished building a Realm C-Type. Its cost me £16,000 so far and its almost finished. It is GRP but when you consider that an aluminium C-Type bonnet is £9,000 its doesnt look too bad! I have a photographic build and can email you the pics if you like.

Here are a few to go on with:

That would depend on what C-type you want to build. Realm C-type chassis are built by Tunnicliff Engineering based on a design by Reynard. A real C-type chassis is another thing entirely, and so are the rest of the parts including suspension and Panhard rod for instance. Here are a couple of photos of my C-type chassis if it might help. This is copied from a real C-type, not one of the popular replicas.

Bought the Suffolk c-type kit, they can supply the whole car , however i know people that have sourced all sorts to make theirs. i have not got the time at the moment to chase parts however the more i get into it the more i learn. Several people said if you can get them from Suffolk then do. Bit like anything in life the more you put in the more you get out. Really enjoying it.

Did you look at other kits like the Realm one?
What made you choose the Suffolk kit?
Have you had to source a donor car?

This looks just like the sort of project a chap and di 14 yo son can bond over to me!

Hi yes i did, over along period of time, i chose the suffolk C Type as it is based on a copy of an original car in so far as chassis , and dimension. Its the correct width and length, it does use donor parts which are modified. I wanted to end up with a car which has the same characteristics as the original ( well near as damn it!) . Its personal preference, mine has disc breaks and the 4.2 xk engine.
Suffolk sourced the donor for me , though if you speak to them i am sure they will give you guidance, (the donor parts are modified btw) Suffolk are very helpful and obliging.
my son is 4 yrs ....! say no more.

Anyone here know about the original Proteus copy?
My car was built in'88 but the body which is alloy seems not to be symetrical with some of the supporting panels under the rear of the body being of a different length on each side? This means the near side rear wheel seems slightly further out than the off side. Is this just a poorly built body or is there another reason for it? I think the bodies were copied off a 1952 original. Had it a very long time so I know it has not been crashed
