XK120 banger racing!
Discussion
Sorry Yertis, the answer is yes. There is a leather covered "armrest" with handbrake gaiter that goes over the propshaft tunnel and matching carpet to go over the gearbox.
No headlining or rear child seats or rear trim panels, and the boot space which is normally covered in Hardura will also remain untrimmed.
I have bought a pair of blue 6 point harnesses but not decided how to fit them yet....

Harness might be a blessing or a curse. In an accident in restraining your weight there is every likelihood that the seat will break in half as you are forced backwards. Harness combined with competition seat would be you best option. No headlining or rear child seats or rear trim panels, and the boot space which is normally covered in Hardura will also remain untrimmed.

Great news! A week or so ago we were ready to start the engine, after nine years. After checking oil level, filling the radiator and tightening one or two jubilee clips we were ready to go. On the second turn she fired and then started! Always a relief. She sounds great and the pickup with the three carbs is excellentworh excellent oil pressure.
Since then have connected up the hydraulic clutch and bled the system and have run the car through the gearbox with the wheels off the ground. Not sure the dynamo is working, or maybe the ammeter, and the electric rev counter, driven by a generator off the back of one of the camshafts is also not going yet.
We bled the brakes on thursday. All looked good until we noticed a drip from one of the pistons on the front caliper, so ordered two new ones.
So after next week just the windscreen chromes to fit and the bonnet plus grill. I have booked it in with Rob at Norfolk Classic and Sports cars in Fakenham to do the caster/camber, plus tune the engine, so nearly there, although there are bound to be a few niggles to sort out.

Did anyone ever figure out the story as to why it was scrapped to begin with?
It's in the thread, but summary is owner died, widow sold car on condition it was scrapped and made scrap man cut the roof off while she watched, scrap man sold it to banger racer who sold it to current owner.A more/less honest/dishonest (depending how you look at it ) scrap man would have put it in the crusher, but fortunately he didn't!

And only that old dear is going to know why she hated the car so much she wanted it destroyed rather than just sold.Perhaps the dead husband was the jealous type and didn't want anyone else ever driving 'his' car, or maybe the widow just resented the time the husband spent with the car.....
Sorry but as a short oval fans I find this both sad and hilarious!!
there are thousands of cars rare or similar sitting in yards waiting for the right meeting to come up where they are prepared.
I am no fan of banger racing, find it pointless, but there is s certain honour in letting an old thing have one last blast then be turned into a ball.
Maybe not a car like this, but a lot of them are rotten to the core, the drivetrain is all changed and or sold on and they really are just shells with Granada gear underneath.
Still a shame at times, but as I say also quite funny!

If it's stuff like fifteen year old Mondeos, 5 series or S-Types etc. bangers are a fun activity for a lot of people. But classics are a shame.there are thousands of cars rare or similar sitting in yards waiting for the right meeting to come up where they are prepared.

The small hatchback bangers look terrifying. They seem to disappear to almost nothing.

But to be fair trashing loads of bangers helps to make the survivors become classics years later! I'll always remember the all Jaguar banger race my late Dad took me to at Wimbledon in the 70s and there must have been at least 30 on the grid. But most of them were rotten as a pear so back then not worth saving. The small hatchback bangers look terrifying. They seem to disappear to almost nothing.
I only did a few banger races thanks to a motor trader mate, but taking part certainly does up the adrenaline level.
This is banger racing as it should be. Worthless old snot being given a final blast.

As for 'classics' - an utterly knackered A60, Cortina etc isn't really a loss. There are still enough of them about and all those who say 'it should be saved' are the ones least likely to stick their hand in their pocket and actually buy it. The cost of restoring a rusty Mark 10 Jag with shagged trim/chrome etc means it's a scrap car at the end of the day. Sell the good bits, banger it, job done.
