Can't post the pics right now but will ASAP, however I saw the car yesterday. It's approaching paint time.

The guys are using old magazines to ensure they get the paint right etc. they are also repairing the original parts rather than replacing.

And, get this, the pic linked by Rallycross above is the actual car I've been following.

As mentioned before the trumpets through the bonnet were a later addition so they won't be coming back.
Thats superb to hear.
Keep us updated with progress, very few old rallycross cars survive into old age as its so rough they end up being broken/re-shelled/scrapped so to find an original 4wd Capri is quite incredible.

There is also one of its rivals,a works 4wd Mini proto-type that has been restored, here are pics of it when it was new

Couple of pics from the 4x4 Capri resto - it has been stripped completely and is now back together. The wings are the originals with repair sections cut out of an original pressing - so it is as original as possible.

Colour pic of the car in action from the "file"

Side shot - its surrounded by stuff so couldn't get the whole car in.

Getting there.

Hi all, have read this topic ( Mk1 3 Litre Capri's)with great interest, I passed my test when I was 18 and drove a Mk4 Zephyr V6 for a while before I bought my first 3 Litre Capri it was a black 3000E RAM 44J, whilst I had this I also bought a 3000GTXLR in a very pale blue cannot remember the name of the colour only seen one other since, this car OTP 271H needed minor body work which was done I then gave it to my father

he kept it for several years it ended up mildy customised.
In the meantime I had sold the "E" and bought a pearl grey 3000GXL with sunroof and cloth trim at the same time I bought a 3000GTXLR in Ermine White with Rally Pack EAE 264K

sold both of these and bought GON 135L a Copper Bronze 3000GXL this was a mint car
at this time I also bought a couple of cars for breaking a diamond white 3000GXL and a black pre facelift 3000GT, sold the copper bronze car and bought a Fern Green 3000GXL RGK 900L with factory sunroof with the sole purpose of fitting a V8 into it, this consisted of a late 3500S engine with leyland sport cam, high rev lifters and 465 Holley I had some great times in this car

Whilst owning this car I bought another 3000E XOJ 999J in Sunset Red for the princely sum of £20 auto box was shot and it needed the exhaust sorting and N/S front wing replacing (supplied) with all the spares I had accumulated this car was back on the road within a week with manual box .
Sold both of these cars back in approx 1984 also in between owning the above I also had 2 3000S Mk2's both in Arizona Gold, when I sold the V8 capri I bought my first Mk3 a "W" Reg 2.8i then followed a succesion of Mk3 V6 Capri's inc 2 3000S one "W" Reg auto and one "X" Reg black, Apollo Green 3000 Ghia Auto, "Y" Black 2.8i 4 speed, "A" Reg White 2.8i, 2 Black Specials "B" and "D" Reg whilst owning the latter it was approx 2 years old I had the yearning for another Mk1 so I bought GUY 267J a 3000GTXLR in Maize Tellow and restored it

I was now back into the Mk1's I then sold the Special and bought a Marine Blue RS3100 to restore TDH 224M came to me in 1991 whilst I owned this car it was featured in many mags, a hardback book and appeared in "The cars the star" with Quinton Wilson and Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson

also whilst owning this car I also save another rather special Capri and the only one out of nearly 30 that I have owned that was not a V6 model.
I bought KPE 34P a White 1.6 JPS for £100 and restored it then sold it on after a year or so during this time I also bought another 3000GXL SOU 626M originaly a Sebring Red car but painted black.
In 1998 I sold TDH and bought another RS3100 this time a Sebring Red car that had been off the road for some 7 years TJB 460M was mine for £500 after a week the car was MOT'd, during the weeks leading up to buying this car I had been in contact with a guy in france with a veiw to buying an RS2600 on July 4th 1998 I brought one back got it MOT;d within days ran it until Sep/Oct then took it off the road to restore this was completed by May 1999 during the resto the RS3100 was sold due to losing garage space.
The RS2600 as first seen
after a weekend of cleaning

and after the resto

Now in 2003 I began to feel the need to buy another Capri when I found out that TJB 460M that I had sold bad become an abandoned project so a deal was struck with the guy that I sold it to and she was back in my ownership this is what she looked like when I found her

After the restoration she is looking much better

I still own both of these cars today and have been fortunate enough to have had them both in several magazines, I have been the RS Capri Registrar for the RS Owners Club for nearly 20 years and have met some fantastic people along the way if any of you guys know of any RS3100's that may have escaped the Register or have owned one and maybe remember the Reg No or have a photo of it I would love to hear from you.
Huge appologies if I have bored you rigid with this but as I'm sure you can tell I do have a fondness for the V6 Capri.

Very interesting post RS Capri, love it !
Shame we didn't meet in the early 80s , your 3 Litre Capri addiction is even worse than mine lol ! Great photos, Allways wanted a 2600 or a 3100 .

In 82 I tried very hard to save a crusty / scruffy / faded/ everyday driver Sebring Red 3100 from Debden ( Loughton ) but he just wouldn't budge .
I can still picture it as clearly as it was yesterday , where has the time gone , It had gaping holes at the base of the screen, faded paint etc etc .
When I spoke to Len Pierce about it a couple of years ago, he thought it may have been scrapped ?

That is quite a story rscapriman. Be interested to know what you thought of the RS2600 in comparison to the essex V6's. One of the guys that works for me is looking for a mk1 3 litre Capri. If anyone knows of a good car for sale I'd gladly put Lee in touch.

Hi v46m4n, yes I do know something of this car as I was offered it some years ago for £500 may be off your good self however I never had the space to keep it so put a friend of mine in touch with the owner and he bought it, he still has it and it will definitely be restored he also owns 4 other RS3100.s.

Hi graemel, two different beasts the RS2600 is so much smoother and revs more freely, the equipment level is much greater as is the build quality BUT the torque and that outragious boot spoiler ( back in the early 70's) makes the RS3100 a quality tool I love them both.
I have to say that I have been a very lucky guy to have owned the cars that I have and have so many great memories, but I did work my a** off to get them but to find any Mk1 Capri in 1998 in the condition that I found the RS2600 was just a dream come true just 2 former keepers 39,000 on the clock and never welded now what were the chances??????

RScapriman, youve owned my dream cars, my dad had a gxl, DNT 662L, long gone now, he owned it 7 years, it was the car that made me a petrolhead, my favourite capri's are 1,rs3100/2600. 2, gxl. , 3 2.8i joint 3.0s.
For me the 4 pot capri didnt exist although id imagine a 2.0 s in its day would be nice, i think it would handle better than a v6, ive owned 2 28i's loved them, may own another yet.
My dream buy would be a rs3100 rep with the 24v cosworth engine in, tell me what is the best standerd model out there, is the rs2600 better than a brooklands, or would it be something else.

Hi Rumple, I guess its all a matter of personal preference, I have been fortunate to own many V6 models but never had a Broklands simply because at the time I never thought they we were worth the extra money over the Special's.
I always seemed to go back to the Mk1 and always liked the quad headlamp models and personally I like the facelift more than the pre facelift, I would not swap/sell either of my cars to get a Mk3 but I would be happy to add a 4 speed 2.8i in Cardinal Red and a 3000S in Signal Amber or Cobalt Blue to my collection.

smile

Signal Amber 3.0S would be rather nice.

My lottery win Capri collection would include, one of the first batch of early bumper-less lightweight RS2600's, an Olympic Blue RS31 (or perhaps if it's still around, PFR 111M, a Modena Green RS31 I spent some enjoyable time at the wheel of back in the mid 1980's) plus a geniune X-Pack 3.0S.

Exactly describes my last Capri, which was with me for 3 years and 30k miles in the mid-nineties.

WLE200X - still taxed, so it's out there somewhere.

No, not RS3100 Registrar, I was the RS2000 Registrar at the time. I never owned PFR, it was restored by the Twin Cam Registrar, Bob Gregg, for his wife to use, but she didn't take to it, so they decided to sell it, and during the summer of 1985, as my RS2 was off the road, and we were great buddies, Bob drafted me in to drive PFR to various shows for him so he could put a for sale sign on it, and he wanted to drive his Twin Cam to the shows instead.

Here it is at AVO OC National Day in 1985, which was one of the shows I drove it to that year. Bob is at the back on the right doing his 'Arfur Daly' routine trying to flog it to someone by the looks of it smile

Glad it's still around.

I think that might have been a bit later than that and into the early 1990's, as Dennis Sellers was RS3100 Registrar for a good number of years through the mid-late 1980's, and (it's a long time ago now) was still RS31 Registrar up until I stopped being RS2000 Registrar which must have been around 89-ish.... maybe laugh
I probably have got a few other shots, but not converted to digital from slide. I'll get around to it one day smile
I'm 99.9% sure the Daytona RS31 parked next to PFR is the ex-press/road test car, NHK 281M, which had previously been owned by the original RS3100 Registrar of AVOOC, Mikey Lower, but was, by this time (1985) in it's post written-off reshelled '2nd life' smile
