I went to have a look and drive of this 3000GT yesterday
It had been sat a while and had a few little niggles but bought the memories flooding back , might actually buy it if my Evo sells

My old man had two Mk1's, the first a 2000XL in gold around 1970 and the second was a 3000E a couple of years later, in a platinum colour (can't remember what it was called, might've been Pearl Grey) with a black vinyl roof and red interior, he used to joke that it looked like a bullet. I was still at Primary School and very happy memories, miss him and the cars!
Fubar, re that 3.0 Litre S Capri, YHK was a Warley , Essex series of registration numbers. I remember seeing quite a few quite a few 3 Litre cars with this number prefix.
Can you get a closer look at that white one ? Be interesting to see if it was an original white car.
In 1981 I used to buy parts for my Z900 from a great pair of guys in Leytonstone who had a small co called Newton Equipment. One day I went in and the younger of the 2 partners ( wish I could remember his name ) said to me " we have something out the back that you are going to love, come and have a look " .
Said thing was a 3 Litre S X Pack car with All the goodies , inc 7 1/2 x 13 RS Alloys, the Arch kit , Triple Webbers , Recaros etc etc . It was either Stratos Silver or Black .
He took me for a long , fast spin in it , fab car, I wanted it , but it was just too dear for me at the time. I believe Newtons closed soon after and I have often wondered what happened to that X Pack Capri .

I can if its still in the garage, not that Id know what to look for lol. The garage owner is an old family friend so Im sure he wouldnt tell me porkies about provenance, although the car owner I cant vouch for.Can you get a closer look at that white one ? Having said that, on the original thread I posted was a Google search link, which which threw up this link which kind of makes me think its true

And what became of this Beast ? Tony Strawsons Awesome BOSS Powered MK1 Race car.
It was featured in the sadly defunct "FAST CAR" MAG in i beleive 1974.
This car was actually built by Mick Hill who was the first person to put a V8 in a racing Capri for the old Special Saloon Championship. Oddly enough he won just about every race he entered and then sold the car to Tony Strawson as he'd built something faster ( he eventually built a beetle with a Cosworth DFV in it which must have been exciting)It was featured in the sadly defunct "FAST CAR" MAG in i beleive 1974.
I think it was 1972 or 73 when Special Saloons developed the Super Saloon ( Superloon) class and Tony raced in that for a while but the old Capri was soon outclassed by the likes of Gerry Marshall in Big and Baby Bertha and Alan Minshaw's crazy Daf
Fact the car hasn't been seen for years suggests it' still in Strawsons's garage. ( It had very nice strawberries painted on the roof I recall)
BHK 571X, early 2.8i press-car in graphite grey met over stratos silver with rare Ford alloy rocker-covers. Was road-test car for Hot Car magazine sept or oct 1981 issue. Anyone have any info or history on this Capri?? Std condition in early 1990s. Last taxed 1994.
Also, how many Mk1 RS3100 Capris do actually survive now?
Thx.

Fubar, if you can get a closer look at her, check the boot area spare wheel well and also the engine bay. If she's been colour changed chances are that these area won't have been done and will be original.
A 3 Litre shell has front suspension Top Plate stiffeners and various other bits.
In the early to mid 80s a really nice White T plate 3 Litre S used to be parked near the top of Bethnal Green Rd, just opposite where i worked , i tried on numerous occasions to buy it , but he wouldnt sell for sensible money and then one day it dissapeared .
I had 3 x 3 Litre S Capris from late 1985 , a Venetian Red T plate one , ( just didn't like that car , partly due to the awfull glass sunroof , the seller never mentioned on the phone ) then in early 86 a Velvet red metallic S plate one, which was a rare colour even then ( lovely car ) and then a Gold ( Oyster ? ) T plate one, which again I couldnt get on with.
My mate had 2 of them , a Green W plate one and then a stunning X plate one in Stratos Silver, which he reckoned was almost the last one built.
They were a very common car back then , but it now apears that the survival rate is shockingly low.

Newton Equipment are still around but based in Barking.
Anyone know this car.

Looks a lovely example. Not a fan of the tan interior. If it was black I could be sorely tempted. I've given the link to Lee the young lad who works for me. Taken at face value I think you would struggle to find a better one. Your collective thoughts would be very much appreciated. Note side repeater on front wing. Where did that come from?. Not factory I'm sure.

Hi graemel, I have seen this car and it is very nice but there are better out there and yes your right side repeaters are not factory fitted, to my knowledge the only Mk1 in the UK to have these fitted are the pre-facelift specials in Emerald Green and Ebony Black. Also fitted to Italian market RS2600 albeit clear not orange.
