Here is another MK1 3 Litre Capri that still survives.
This one is a 3000GT with a 302cu and auto dropped in...

Great topic - here's a couple that have survived. They are both 3000 E's. The one just in shot was restored and now has a new owner.

Anyone seen this - http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/news/classic-c...

Hi Len/ All, Here's a 3000GTR. I remember the previous owner buying this car new. He had originally placed an order for a 2000 V4 but once he found out the 3000 V6 was to become available he revised his order and waited. It must be one of the very first 3000 Capri's built. Still on Goodyear G800's and the spare is unused.

It's a bit slower than the baby brother Escort. Owner comes from Geordieland and it's a recent rebuild, goes well.

Very nice car Michael, and unusual being a 3000 GTR I imagine most would have had the full XLR options.
I love this thread please keep pics coming.

This looks like a solid car, would this be a good example of what you would get for this price in NZ? People told me I had the wrong wheels on my car for year's. I was told these were only fitted to "specials" - Thanks for posting.

Here's another 3000GT that still exists. It's an EX British Vita/ factory supported car.

Great thread

I'm looking for a mk1 3000 but didn't realise there were so many different models. Pre face lift

I thought there was only an E.

Whats with all the GT and XLR and stuff.

What's the difference?

All the pre-facelift cars were badged 3000GT. There were 'option packs': 'X','L' & 'R'.

Most had all three packs, i.e. '3000GT XLR' - the equivalent of the later '3000E'

But it was possible to order them with fewer or no options. There's a '3000GT R' a few posts back in the thread and, many pages back, some pics of my plain '3000GT' with no options.

My car had no spotlights, reversing lights, heated rear screen(!), over-riders, dummy air-vents or chrome on the sills.
It had a bench rear seat, plastic steering-wheel, non-dipping interior mirror, silver grille and body-coloured rear panel.

As a 'GT' it did have the six-dial dash and Rostyle wheels.
(Pre-facelift four-cylinder cars were available in non-GT form with skinny wheels and a two-dial dash).

Trim levels only.

There was the base GT and you could spec any of the optional trim level packages on top of the base GT, making a GT XL or GT XLR. The E when introduced was the top of the range in terms of trim level.

They were an option at the time so there are quite a few car with them for late 71 cars ?, Mine has then and definitely original. Also fitted to 3000E's I believe.

My old man had an H reg 2000GT XLR in gold with black vinyl and followed it with a K reg 3000E in pearl grey with a black vinyl roof and red interior. Happy days and memories, great thread, that gold car really brings it all back.

This link should make things a little clearer - http://www.caprimk1ownersclub.com/literature.htm

Massive list of trim options, engine options and colour options hence "The Car You Always Promised Yourself"
