I was in contact with the owner! He wanted me to buy it.. for less than that
Yeah, owner must be laughing all the way to the bank with that silly winning bid - fair play, though.I would have been surprised if that had reached 30k, let alone 38k!
One too many little oddities on that car for me for it to be a top money RS2.

Re the Capri and Yale locks, one day in circa 1972, my then very cool Uncle came over in his lovely White J reg Cortina 1600E, he wanted to do a swap with my Mums Aubergine Capri 3000GT ( VEG 97H where Are you now ? ) my Mum and Dad declined his offer, but my Uncle then proceeded to open the Capris passenger door with his 1600E keys ! We were mortified !!
In Jan 1982 when I bought my first ( and best 3 Litre Capri, EVC 289L ) Yale locks were fitted to it. Thank god they ruddy well were, as one night, I was parked outside The British Queen pub in Buckhurst Hill, when at closing time I went to open the drivers door and realised that it was slightly open!!! Someone had unlocked the door, but the retaining plate for the Yale lock had stopped the thieving scum getting the door open ! Thank god for Yale locks!! I remember lots of cars having them around that time.

Build plates looked wrong, but wasn't clear enough in photos though. They weren't painted though, as they should be, which always makes me suspicious. The wrong front panel though was just bizarre. All that work and they fit the wrong front panel. Even if that was all that was available, at least you would have filled the hole in with a plate and ground flush
Although a fan (I'm restoring one) this RS2000 was crazy money and I thought it must be dodgy bidding but there were loads of bidders.Out of interest whats wrong with the front panel?

Aeropilot Im pretty sure Cordiners in Inverness were RS dealers in 73/74 there were certainly quite a few RS2000s about.
Yes, your right, I was looking at an original list from when the Mex and RS16 were introduced in 1970/1, and the furtherest north at that time was Frew & Co in Perth, but, I've just looked at the list in the back of my original owners manual that I still have from my old '74 RS2000, and Cordiners are indeed listed as a RS dealer by then.imagineifyeswill said:
If thats the original registration number then thats another North of Scotland car, surprising as most seventies cars up here were rotten at 10 years old due to the severe winters we used to get and salt on roads.
Could this be the same Sebring rs31 from morayshire in the mid to late 1980s? Am sure it was on a stW plate too. Had an osselli engine. Lost track of it around 1990 but believe it went to Caithness area of Scotland around then.Cordiners also had a RS dealership in Aberdeen.

If your'e sure the reg began STW then I would say yes it is the same car, as fas as I am aware there is only one other Sebring Red RS3100 bearing the Reg No STW and to my knowledge it never went to Scotland.
Always assumed given the apparant low mileage that it was running its original engine plus non of the previous owners I have spoken to said any different, but hey you cant rule it out.

I would think that is the same Sebring RS3.1 that would have been in Morayshire, it was in Dingwall when I knew it in 74/75. I had said in an earlier post that I thought the owner also had a yellow RS2600 but looking at RScaprimans site I now think it may also have been a 3.1 because if I remember correctly it had the boot spoiler which the 2600s dont seem to have. I have a friend in Orkney who paints cars and knows most of the guys who dabble in classics there, next time I speak to him I will ask if he knows anything about the white car. I past an unrestored car which I think was a 3Litre on a trailer heading south just north of Inverness 2 weeks ago.
Longnose, any photos and more memories ??
It looks like your 3000E was first registered on July 1st 1971 ( an early 128bhp version with the awful Zodiac gear ratios / poor breathing and if it was a lovely light met blue which was called Saphire blue ) and the tax expired in Jan 1984.
Sadly it's very unlikely it has survived.
The survival rate for these cars is shockingly low, however due to them being terrible rot boxes / The scum bag car thieves easy steal / car of choice and also bought by the type of buyer who once he had pulled enough birds / thrashed the life out of it / couldn't care less about servicing and maintaining it, then it's hardly suprising so few are left !!
In 1982 through to the mid 80s they were still a fairly common sight.
My Mums first one VEG 97H a lovely Aubergine 3000GT, was stolen from Blackhorse Road underground station car park one day whilst my mum and I went up to London. The low life bent the steering wheel down to get the crook lock off.
About a week later my Mum got a call from Hackney nick saying that it had been found, so we somehow got to Hackney police station and after a 10 minute ride in an Austin J4 Black Maria we arrived at a small yard in Balls Pond Rd Islington to collect our Capri.
