The Silver one that I had was fitted with that power bulge bonnet end section. The Silver 3 Litre that Giles Crush restored has it I believe, he told me his one is the earliest known 3 Litre survivor.

Circa 1980 a late pal turned up in an early 3 Litre he had ideas on flogging me. I took it for a blast, but compared to EVC 289L, the gear ratios were awful and it just didn't rev like my mid 72 build car.

Re wheels, no wonder Cosmic alloys sold so well.....Their Adverts stated something like " Fit Cosmic and you can arrive dramatically " seen here fitted to YCF 346K my much missed 3000E, which started life in Norfolk as an auto, but thankfully converted to a manual sometime before I bought it 😃

Correct sardonicus, only tubular exhaust manifolds also early pre Oct 1971 cars were fitted with weber 40 dfav after this date 38 dgas, external linkage box stayed with 3 litres until facelift but continued with later 2 litre models.
Yes I do remember the separate cast part to the rear of power bulge only had one car with it fitted and unfortunately when I bought it it had suffered front end damage and new bonnet came as one piece affair as per majority
The early cars did run out of breath but hey what fun when you were in your teens, I was obsessed with them then and still am now lol.

thumbup Had more Capri's than I care to remember amongst 1600XL written off GT XLR still on the road an E scrapped and an early 2.8i 4 speed converted to an Essex because I liked the lump so much but it did not recapture my earlier years unfortunately frown and others broken for spares the car that bonnet came off was a 69 GT H plate with the 128 hp motor the 40DFAV carb and that bonnet that that always got tongues wagging along with the RS front wings biggrin the only good panels on the 69 GT was a super clean bonnet and both re-skinned front doors the rest was original but rotten frown

Don't think this is a survivor. Old Chap who lives along the road from my mum came over to see my Capri when I parked up a few months ago. Next thing he pulls out photos of some he used to own. He owned this one when it was new - lucky chap.

He couldn't believe it when I told him what it would be worth if he'd kept it in and it was still in that condition.

Supplied new by Frew and Company Ltd of Perth I would think, going by the reg number.
Yep - the chap has lived in Perth all his life as far as I know.

How time flies! When I said "a few years ago" it was almost 40 years ago! This is from 1978 according to a hand-written note on the back of the photo. If you look closely, a previous owner had installed a Zodiac "hood ornament" which never stayed upright. Clearly I forgot to adjust it before this picture was taken. I don't remember the gear ratios or the breathing specifically but it seemed to go pretty well for cars of that time. I think I kept it for a couple of years as an everyday driver and did a couple of camping holidays around the UK. It was a good car and I enjoyed owning it.
Was this south east london area by chance in that year? wink

No, the opposite side. Eastcote area in north west London. All London suburbs look the same?

My Dad dearly loved his old GTXLR, still has the wheels for it in the garage at home!

Is there any way to trace it bar the DVLA enquiry? Doesnt look good, last taxed in 1992 frown

the earlier engine had oval window inlet ports and the Zephyr/Zodiac cam and was reluctant to rev over 4.5 K (basically came from the MK4 as is) also that horrible side rail g/box and st ratio's frown
Yes, my '70 model had that 'agricultural' gear-change, and it didn't rev like my mate's 3000E. But I didn't care; it was the first seriously powerful car I'd owned and I greatly enjoyed impressing/frightening my passengers by spinning the rear wheels in second gear on greasy roads smile

I am soon to be reunited with our favourite gearbox as the 1972 RS2600 I recently bought has one, that's gonna make for some slick gear changing lol

Always great to see another restored 3000, especially standard spec. Can't get my head round the price tag though. Anyone know the history of the car, has it been magazine featured? Does it still have it's early wheezy Zodiac engine and 3.22 diff?

I agree with you price tag I would think is a tad optimistic, looking at the air breather unless its been modified it still has the 40 dfav carb so good chance its still running the early motor especially with those low miles.

That's my impression too. Very nice original spec GTXLR. Being an early auto with webasto it's a cruiser rather than a roadburner. Didn't think it was Maize, thought it was Daytona for a start but now when I look at it again . . .
Note - it apparently has rostyle alloys according to dealer's ad! (Try lifting one). Am just nitpicking dealer's listing though. However, . . . . they are asking £30k for a Capri, get your facts right!
Details i'd attend to would be the bonnet lines round the headlights, twin tailpipe is not level. Also, static seatbelts. Had forgotten about those, even though period correct.
I'd love to have it as a runaround.

£30 grand for an early 128bhp with an Auto box and not the ideal colour either is crazy / daft money, but they are well known for " hyping the market ".
