How about a 'period looking' classics picture thread?

I know I'm a bit slow replying to this, I can't change the plates or get a different picture, as I'm overseas. However, you did give me an idea.

I wonder how many people who have owned an MGB have indeed done 109 mph. 70mph for me was bordering on the limit Text from an original advert!

That's not strictly true I could easily get 80-85 in my MGA and 90 if I pushed it. I am sure the MGBs would top the ton. My brother had one and it certainly felt perkier than my A. RichB said:

Horrible things to drive

I don't think he was inferring that it wasn't capable of topping the ton, rather did you actually want to consider topping the ton in a B...

I guess that depends on your age and what you're comparing it to. As a teenager in the 60s they were perfectly good compared to a Ford Pop or a Hillman Minx! And having driven one back in 1982.......I'm inclinded to agree with him

To be honest, I haven't tried, but it feels fine at 80-90mph, above that I can't hear the 8-Track! MGBs seem to get an undeserved hard time in my opinion, despite owning one, I'm not going to pretend they handle well, they don't. However, they are cheap to buy and run, the brakes and steering are competent in modern traffic, the performance is adequate and they're still comfortable on the motorway. There are a lot of classics from the same period which are none of those, but don't have to endure the same criticism. Perhaps it is rooted in the Leyland advertising of the 70s, trying to pretend the B was a sports car, I'm not sure, but I like it for what it is.
I did once manage 109mph in my mini, GPS confirmed as the 90mph speedo was well on it's way back round to zero. That was pretty terrifying, mainly because of the thought of the unbalanced standard flywheel doing over 7000rpm inches from many parts of my body I'd rather keep.

This A40's been in the family since new (1960), it now needs restoring but this photo was taken maybe 20 years ago, doctored to look more like 50+ years hopefully ....
